I was looking to go to the lake this weekend and was wondering which one would be better either Don Pedro, New Melones or Mclure. If any of you have been there lately on the weekends Id appreciate it if you could let my know how it is. Any input would be fine.

Well, i've been to both DP and NM.....But i havn't been to anything since late June.....DP has some nice coves here and ther, but can get those evening winds and can get a lot of traffic some times...NM, can b the same with the winds, but not sure how crowded it gets on the weekends....Never been to Mclure, i hear is rather small by comparison to the other two, but less people go there, and i hear ther r some cool coves.....I am heading to Mclure this thursday for the first time, with some friends........

If I were gonna go to a "nearby" lake it would be Bullard's Bar

mcclure is a great lake. i was there from mon-fri and never once did the water get choppy. however when i went there in mid july the water level was way down. it was going down a foot a day. by now i dont know how much lake will be left.

I have heard that the water level is below the ramps at McClure Point Ramp at lake McClure. I am not a big fan of the lake, compared to Don Pedro and Melones. In my experiences with McClure there has always been a lot of debris and it is a lot smaller. Melones is a little less busy than Don Pedro, but that is because it is higher up the mountain. Both are similar in size and temps. If you go to Don Pedro, go to the moccasin point side, a little less traffic and better coves. If you need anymore information just ask.

Go to Pedro I have been to all three. Pedro is less busy and less windy than the others, and lots of coves. Melones is my second choice.

My parents have a HB on McClure so we are there a lot. Its low right now, but if you are going to ride I would recommend it over the other two. You can always find good water especially up river. Not sure why you think its small, its 18 miles from the dam to the river.
