I'm checking out a KX800.4 amp to power one pair of kicker tower speakers (KB600) and run one 10" sub. I noticed on the information page from kicker that the amp requires a Tri-way crossover for use in 3 channel mode. Why is this? The amp it has built in crossovers for "amp1" and "amp2". Can I just run my sub bridged from the "amp1" side and my tower speakers from the "amp2" side? I'd set the amp1 to low pass and leave amp2 crossover off. Any suggestions on wiring or the performance of this amp? Thanks.

I don't see what's wrong with your setup either. One note though, I'd turn the high pass filter on on amp 2 so it's not wasting bass. More bass will go to amp 1 and the sub will hit harder.

Hollywood, what he's wondering is if he has to split the signal before it gets to the amp, hence the 2 sets of preamp inputs. I was having the same issue, as my head unit (clarion) only had one set of preamp outputs. If you have one with a pair or even a sub and 2 full range pair its is fine, but you would have to split the preamp with a tri-way crossover or a y-cable (losing signal power) to run this amp with only 1 preamp output from the head unit

I have a sony MP80 with 3 pre-amp outputs. I can run separate rca cables to each side of the amp. I just don't understand why that won't work... but then again I don't have a whole lot of experience with it.

you are fine, maybe just run the sony head unit's sub preout to amp 1, and turn off the amps x-over, and run one of the full range preouts to amp 2, and knock the bass off of your tower speakers

you dont need a tri way crossover.

here is a link to the owners manual

http://www.kicker.com/images/manuals/02KX300_600_800_4Manual.pdf yes it will work
you will need to power the tower speakers off the front amp{amp 1} and the sub off the rear{amp 2} for the in dash bass knob to work.run the front rca from your deck to the amp 1 inputs and the sub rca from your deck to the amp 2 imput.

Would my sub be getting 200Wx1 @ 4ohms and tower speakers 100Wx2 @4ohms? If I bridge amp2 and run amp1 in stereo? That should work well then with the dash bass knob too.

actiondcpd, no, you would get 400Wx1@4ohms at the rear and 100Wx2@4 ohm at the front.

so with this amp you could theoretically run 1 sub @ 4 ohms bridged mono and 4 tower speakers wired to run at 2 ohms stereo right?

That is basically the same amp that Nautique puts in their boats with the upgraded stereo, but it's the 300.4 model. Run one of the ampsbridged mono for the sub and the other you can run in stereo. Like was said earlier, run your sub preamp out to one side of the amp and then one of the full range preamps to the other side. It will work fine that way.

I'm about to pull out my 300.4 and go with the 700.5 so that I can run my subs to a dedicated mono amp. Then the other two amps will be running the tower speakers and other interior speakers. Should work out well...

I just put a 800.4 in my boat to run just the tower speakers. I would not recommend running a sub AND tower speakers, it won't be loud enough. At least for the tower speakers.

I have the evid 6.2 tower speakers and with the gains cranked on my Kicker amp the music is barely loud enough when riding behind the boat.

If you don't dedicate that amp to just the tower speakers, you won't be able to hear them when riding.

I think you'll have plenty of power for those tower speakers. I had a 800.4 in my car dedicated for 4 6x9"s and they screamed. The amp later defected, and now I have the new model, 850.4 and I still don't even run the gain at 2/3. I honestly don't know anyone that listens to music in their car louder than myself either.

Loudness in a car and loudness 60'-80' behind a boat, with the boat traveling 17-26mph, are two extremely different things.

My evids are 300W RMS each and I'm running 400W to each. You can barely hear them when your riding. If your standing on the swim platform they blow your head off, but when you're riding it's a totally different story.

Now, my friend's NVS system - They blow your head off skiing at 28-32mph. When wakeboarding I have to point to my ear and give the thumbs down sign. They are awesome.
