i have been wakeboarding for about three years and i have got all the basic tricks down like grabs and 180's. the problem is i cant do any more tricks becuase my boat is too small. its a 16.5 foot campion explorer with a 50 horse outboard. i cant really afford anything big.

also i cant really get good air off the wake that i do have. at most i get mabye two feet. am i supposed to hit the wake with bent knees or straight? and am i supposed to ollie off the wake somewhat?

Hey lqdboarder,

Stand tall at the wake and get the handle to your waste...short of that you very well may have maxed out your boat's potential...can you take a lesson in your area...this usually helps dramatically having someone with experience watching you ride.

beasoldierprstn, dude calm down. you can do 180s with like no air 2 feet is enough. And about the standing tall thing, maybe he is the only rider on his lake like i was a couple of years ago so there was no one to tell me whats right or wrong, i just learned from experience.

you can do 180s with like 2 inches of air Rolling Eyes

But yeah, a friend of mine does backrolls behind his old fiberglass outboard boat, so as long as you get a good edging technique, you should be set.

Hey this is an exert from SBC Wakeboard Mag. when I read your question, I thought ammediatly at this article I read about Rusty Malionosky...its pretty long..but evrytime I wish I had a bigger boat I think of this article..here she goes....Did your parents have a tournament boat when you started riding?

Answer: NO ,I started behind my Dads fishin boat, which was 16-foot Misty River aluminum boat with 40 horsepower Yamaha. I used to fill the livewells with water, plus 10 Rubbermaid containers to weigh it down. One time I went to my Dads shop and found a big bar. I mounted the pole in the fishin boat with tiedowns going to each side, the back and front. I had a little ghetto blaster underneath the seat, I thought I had a pimp ride. It was sick. I learned a Tantram, Toeside Backroll, Heelside 3, and Toeside 5 behind that boat. After that I started going to my friend Byron Briskes and ride behind his Prostar 190. Then I started getting pretty good and convinced my Dad to buy a wakeboard boat. He bought a 92" Prostar 190 for a super good deal, but it needed tons of wrok. It was an absolute disaster. The back corner was smashed. The haul was disgusting. The rug, the motor, evrything needed work. So every day after school I worked on this boat all winter. I got the boat lookin so good. First day of nice weather , threw it in and fired it up..It was sick......) Well thtas his story....Im out Peace
