Hey everyone, this slider has come together great with no problems considering the size and complexity of it (well complex for me but im sure a piece of cake for some of you all). Until I started laying down the surface material. I am using 1/8" thick 4x8 sheets of HD Polyproplyene on top of 4x8 sheets of plywood (OSB its really particle board). And the plywood is stretched over braces spaced on every 16" (thats how they build house floors so i figured it would be strong enough). Anyhow i will get straight to the point. i have used liquid nails, some kind of adhesive used for bathboards, screws and nothing works, water still gets underneth and it still ripples along the edges. if you could please help me. I will try to include some pics. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Holy crap that slider is crazy. I'd love to hit that flat part. Sorry I'm no help but I just wanted to comment on the ambition of this slider project. Nice job.

You are going to have to use some thicker sheets atleast 1/4 in. maybe thicker or its going to ripple. That stuff is too thin and I can't imagine it sliding very good either because of the friction from the wood under neath. Sweet funbox though, I am going to do something similar pretty soon. Would you mind giving the dimensions like how wide and long it is?

Put a ramp coming up from the other end and use the rail like a hand rail. That would be killer.Thats the best slider Ive seen in awhile.Good job and be careful.

The slider was built off the platform of a massive covered dock, i cut the roof off and used one of the fingers and built on top of it sense it was so long and soo sturdy 34'x7'. I still have one more finger to use for who knows what. Oh yeah and i made a jib platform out of the connecting piece. Here is what it looked like to begin with.

kananumpua, are your screws/nails/whatever going into the floor joists? if so, the joists are expanding/contracting due to temperature/moisture and that's what's flexing the plastic sheets. i've never really worked with the stuff but i imagine it doesn't react that much to weather changes. but, i could be wrong.

the moisture trapped between the OSB and poly is just from the sun hitting the poly and ambient moisture from the air condensing underneath. to keep that stuff from going into the OSB and making that flex, throw down some tar mat (roofing paper).

you've got to account for a lot of expansion and contraction in wood. my suggestion would be to 1) put your nails/screws into the OSB without hitting the floor joists, 2) pre-drill the holes in the poly, and put a smaller nail/screw in so the sheet can move independently of the frame but still be held down by the head and 3) add the tarpaper. it's kind of in order of most to least important, and i'm not listing them as solutions because they may or may not work. just my suggestions.

oh, and put several layers of clear plastic packaging tape over the nail/screw heads. catching one would be . . . it'd suck.
