Hey everyone my name is Dave and I am from Columbus Ohio! Just started Wakeboarding in June of 04. Pretty neat actually girlfriends Aunt and Uncle live on the River and have a boat we go ouot pretty much every Sunday!! Anyway I can get up very easy and ride to the left but every time I hit a wave (wake) I fell I had a nasty crash last Sunday, I was bored on the outside left and tried to swing in and had the board suck off my feet and my neck almost snapped Crying or Very sad and to top it off the board smacked my head, little spooked after that and took it easy for the next couple of runs. Now I am just curious to know what to do now?? I ride with my left foot forward lean back we do not have a tower yet but will have soon. My question is why did I fall and what next ( as I saw in another post) Any info will be great and I am happy to have a cool Wake club!!!

Welcome Dave. The problem can be from a lot of different things. If the bindings are set up in a wierd way it might be throwing you off. Thats probably not it though. Try bendings your knees more keep the rope at your front hip, not back near your belly-button. When you try coming back into the wake, use the board and your knees instead of your waist and upper body. Whats next? Well just practice crossing the wakes and going back and forth and once you get that down consistenly with good form, you can start trying surface tricks and such. Just remember, bend your knees and don't use your upper body to steer. Any other questions just ask but thats the best I can help you. Good luck and once again, Welcome!

hey thanks for the warm welcome yea like I said it is tough at least for now becasue no one else I am riding with knows how to do it we all tried it and I was the first one to get up, (which insn't a problem at all) but I noticed as I read this forum that I think I caught an "edge" ? I just can't figure out how to get the front lip over the wake but then again I could be going at this all the wrong way Smile but I have no one there that knows what they are doing so it is alot harder!!!

Hey focusdave21,

Hey Dave, learn to ride switch now will help you tons later...just go at it slowly spending as much time as you can on the board (even if it's just riding behind the boat), you'll prolly naturally start edging a bit at a time and from there, who knows...wearing a helmet is not unheard of, my younger daughter does regularly...and for the same reason - board hit her in the head....

Don't sweat not having a pylon/tower - there's plenty to learn.

Oh yeah, welcome - prepare to have some fun...

Wes

welcome,focusdave21,

Just try edging back and forth, start to lean how to cut properly....riding switch will help you out if you start early. Depending on what type of boat you're rockin, ask the driver to make the wake smaller until you get used to it (i.e. trim down, no ballast, etc...)

If you are trying to go out toeside, try to lean in the direction you want to go and put pressure on your toes (a little more pressure with your back leg). This digs the edge of the board into the water and takes you in the direction you want to go. Once you get that down, try to point the nose of the board in the direction you want to go and that will help you edge out harder and faster.

let me know how it goes,
tim
