i have used soap, didnt harm the bindings at all, if you are worried about soap but dont want to spend the bones for lube, go to the dollar store and get some cheap shaving lather, that works better than soap

i have used soap for a long time, i suppose it COULD take some oils or something from the binding, but i think as long as its only in the binding for a few minutes it won't do anything

It will take a long time for it to actually wear on the bindings with normal use. But just make sure you use biodegradable soap like Dial Complete.

Soap compared to lube I think lube works better. At the begining of the season I had a tube of lube I used but now I have figured out a way to get my foot into the binding without the lube. One thing that still really bothers me about getting my foot into the binding though is getting your leg hair caught up in your binding. It kinda stings and pulls when you shove your foot in the binding.

The biggest danger as I have heard it is that the soap will not washout as fast as shaving foam an d lube. Which potentially may cous you to slide out or even through the binding (or is that just another myth?).

the whole deal on soap is it's bad for the environment... shaving cream is bad for ur bindings... seriously... if ur worried about it, buy some lace-ups. oh yeah, prolly the best stuff for lube if u don't wanna buy it is some suave shampoo... it's bio-degradable and won't dry out ur bindings

yea i really dont think soap would do much 2 ur bindings and if it did it would probably take for ever.....just make sure u shake ur feet around once u get in the water 2 get all the soap/lube out so u dont lose ur board wen u fall. the biggest thing with using soap is make sure whatever u use is biodegradable cuz non biodegradable soap can b pretty bad for the enviroment

Most soaps and shampoos contain sulfates and phosphates. It creates Biological Oxygen Demand (BOD) in the water. Can it create a problem in a river? Probably not. In a lake? Probably not unless the balance is already marginal from other runoff and processes.

Soap can cause binding problems if it gets into the neoprene and not completey rinsed out. If you do use soap, dilute it so that it barely works and rinse out your bindings after every use. A 10:1 ratio works very well.

Personally, I use Moose Juice because it is a surfactant and does not contain detergents or glycerins, both that cause BOD. I use lube because I don't like the slick feeling of the soap while riding. I also do not like the soap build up on the swim platform making it slick for the next rider if some soap remains. I am also cheap, MJ sprays. If you dilute soap, put it into a spray bottle and you will use less and it will still work great.

Since most people replace bindings every 3-4 years, soap will not cause too many problems.

Lube use is a matter of personal preferance. If you are in a small impoundment, then soap is an environmental issue. Most of the time it is not. Some tournament sites do not allow soap. One recent tournament had Moose Juice on the staring dock for everyone to use. It was a dedicated ski lake and wanted to keep the algae under control.

If you use shaving cream, check to make sure it does not have alcohol; that will dry out neoprene very quickly. The main lube in shaving cream is glycerin, the same as in skin lotion.

Now, make you own decision. There is no "right" or "wrong" one.

lube, a little more expencive than the alternatives, but works very well

soap, works just like lube, not as healthy for the enviroment

shave cream/gel, works like lube but not as healthy for the enviroment and isn't as good for your bindings.

end of story.

BleedingDead your right, it ain't a question about your bindings so much, you gotta think about the environment. We have the lakes to ride right now but what happens when we abuse them and we don't have them anymore? That scares me away from the whole soap thing anyways, just as long as you have proper fitted bindings you should just be able to use lube sparingly and not have to cough up tons of cash for it all the time.

I use some stuff called NewtJuice is prett expensive but its Bio-Degradeble and is really slimy so its very easy to get into your bindings and yes Dish Soap does wreck your bindings..and you can also use the gel shaving gel stuff...that works well and is safe to the environment....

Something like that is a little bit expensive, but as long as you're smart with how much you're using, its okay. You should only need enough to cover your feet, and possibly a little bit in the heels of your bindings.
