...but what about the carpet?

Great thread on boat maintanance and cleaning. But what about carpet? My boat has some stains on the carpet that I cannot seem to get out. I talked to a guy at a MC dealer whom i witnessed preasure washing the inside of one of their boats. He was using a solution of water and Purple Stuff (similar to Simple Green). I don't have a preasure washer and commercial steam cleaners don't seam to do the trick. Suggestions?

I got some Woolite foaming carpet cleaner sprayed it in let it foam then shop-vac'd it out. Worked great, our carpet had gotten trashed over the summer and it made it look like new. I also got some lysol marine disenfectant to keep the mildew out.

I've gone the carpet cleaner and shop-vac route before and it worked awesome... light gray carpet with mildew and beer stains turned new looking with a bit of work...

I used some foaming stuff in a Red spray can... can't remember the name of it right now... but you can get it everywhere... put it on, let it foam up, on really bad spots, you may have to lightly work it in with a scrub brush (make sure you get a WHITE plastic one as the stuff can make the color run off the brush into the carpet) then shop vac it out... The shop vac works wonders for getting the water out of the carpet too at the end of the season...

suck everything out let it sit in the sun for a few days and it'll be as good as new.

Noneya: Where do you get that lysol marine stuff? That would be great for during the season to keep the compartments clean and stuff...

Yeah it kicks -A we had the mildew and beer stains going on too. Actually my wife got it but it was either at Target or Home Depot. I'll look again when I get home but its in a funky colored can like pink or light grey or something it does have a picture of a yachet on the front.....smells spring fresh too!

Has anyone tried the Hoover home steam cleaners in their boat? I am wanting to clean the carpet some, not so much for stain, but for the mildew smell.

Ok, here is THE best way to clean your carpet. Mix 1/2 gallon of cold water with 1/2 gallon of bleach. Pour sloution over carpet, let stand for sveral minutes, then scrub with a stiff brush. Let stand for five minutes or so, then rinse with LOTS of cold water. Make special attention not to get bleach on any seats or stitching. If a stain can be removed, this will remove it. This also kills any mold or algea growing in the carpet.
Boat carpet is made of 100% solution dyed olifen fibers. That means the color goes through the entire fiber, thus the color will not be removed with bleach.
