Help-ballast gets floor all wet

I recently bought some fly high side seats for ballast.

How do you fill them without getting water all over the floor when you pull the pump off? These bags don't fill from the top and I won't have an auto-ballast system until this winter. The only valves are on the end. Every time I fill and pull the pump off, water comes shooting out until I get the cap on!

Please tell me there is a better way!

Maybe you could use pvc and like make soem kinda doo dad with a valve in it. So when it
s full you can close the valve then pull the pump?

Or you could get over the fact that the boat is going to get wet...it is sitting in water.

if you don't like my version, I have seen people use the idea that powaman stated.

Ok, so how do you put a valve on?

I have this waterbed hose connector attached to the two ends of the pump. If I use pvc or clear vinyl hose from the ballast bag valve, with a check valve, to the pump won't that constrict the flow of water? It looks like most of the water pumps out the sides of the waterbed hose connector and not the end.

Any pics or diagram would help alot. I guess I could just cut the end of the waterbed hose connector so the water flows straight instead of out to the sides?

If you put a valve on, it will increase your fill time because the inside diameter of the valve won't be as large as the I.D. of the hose.

Have someone pull the fitting out while you stand by with the cap. That's what we do. We probably lose about 16 ounces on the floor at the most.

Here's another idea. Don't fill them all the way. Time your fills so they are even from seat to seat. Fill the rest with air.

AGFAN 12 just because the boat is sitting in water that doesn't mean its ok to have water in the boat.enough water gets in the boat from wet riders,life jackets etc.so obviously he doesn't like your version or he wouldn't have taken the time to post a question.

i would say to try and keep the pump conected to the tank and somehow kink the hose so then it doesn't start coming out the other end...or just briong a bucket along to catch the water that comes out when putting the cap on

You can put a valve on that thing and solve the problem (doesn't have to restict the flow, either) but you'll need to leave a stub of hose emanating from the front of the seat onto which to attach the valve. That could be a problem if you want to use the seat as a seat.

Are there any rear-mounted drain/fill plugs to which you could attach a valve and hence keep the stub of hose out of the way?

I have plumbed in fat sacs using clear, re-inforced PVC hose where the internal bore is the same as the external bore of the pump outlets. Adopt the same principle for the valve (a simple 90 degree on/off valve is adequate) and there will be minimal restriction to the flow. However, as others have pointed out, some valves (particularly brass types) have much smaller internal smaller bores than the pipes they are designed to fit but the plastic types that match the hose do not.

I don't have any pics available right now but I will post some of the valves I have used, later. Am sure you can source something similar in the US.

try this
with this setup you can fill and drain both sacs at the same time and adjust the pressure to each sac.you can keep the hoses attached and just close the valves to remove the pump.m.
