So I wake up to a beautiful sunny day, slap on the old Billabongs and go down and eat a big breakfast thinking wow, what a wonderful day, thank God because I'm going to the lake! Well, after I ate I walk out into the shop and hear something banging around in something. I listen, and it's coming from the boat. I run over and uncover it as fast as I can and as I look down into the cabin of the boat, I see two siamese cats staring right back at me. I start swearing at them and telling them to get the fudge out of my boat. I run back and look at the boat to first make sure there was no rips in the vinyl. Nope, thank heavens. I then see the carpet and think, it didn't use to be white shag carpet...it was completely matted in white cat hair. They must have been in there all night, and had gotten in through the small holes for the tower legs to go through. I immediately thought of using tape to pull it out, but that didnt work at all. All I had was duct tape though...so I ended up pulling cat hair out of the carpet from about 6 AM till about 10 before I ended up going out on a friend's boat for the day.

So, my question is, does anyone have any quick fixes for this. Certain type of tape work well or am I just screwed and should I just get back to it and start pickin'?

Go to the store and get a product made for removing cat hair.

If that doesn't work get a comb and losen the hair from the carpet then use a vacuum or tape again.

yeah we have a dog and my mom thought it would be funny a few years back to put her in the boat while i was polishing the outside... i found that standard sticky tape (sellotape) works best, just wrap some round your hand (sticky side out) and get patting! though if you do go to the pet store you can get animal hair tape, its on a brown paper roller and works well... but not that much better than tape!

its a crappy job, i hope you gave them cats a damn good kick in the ass as they ran off!

I love cats. Get a sticky roller at the super market and go to town on the affected areas.

Cat hair is real tough - I've tried those sticky roller that Erik mentioned (got it at Petco) and I found that the good old Duct Tape from Costco worked better for me

What I did was made a ball out of newspaper, and then wrapped the duct tape around the ball (sticky side out) and then rolled the ball around in the boat to get the cat hairs up

I then went to Big-5 sporting goods and bought a crossman 10 pump pellet gun

you can guess the rest... Wink

Thanks guys for the advice. I'll try that news paper idea chaz28o. I put another 2 hours in and got about 2/3's of it done, now I just have to get the bow area and walkway as well as the sides of bench panels (I guess that's what you would call them). Some of the hair did get in some tight spots though like where the floor meets the inner hull. I'll get that when we tear the boat down for the rest of the "big winter project".

Didn't get to kick the cats either...they're my mom's and they are good for keeping the rodent problem down, but dang, I sure did want to...

a damp sponge works well.. it rolls up the hair and makes it easy to pick up.

So for now on...if Im not in boat...cover goes on!...oh yeah packing tape is what I use...sorry just had to vent...its been 2 weeks....Still friken pissed! Evil or Very Mad

Solution: 1 Round Nose shovel + 2 cats = 2 (or so) loud metallic rings and 15 minutes worth of digging. Works everytime in eliminating the cause of the problem.

My neighbor's cats ruined my boat cover.I gave 'em a chance to keep the damn things out.I found a .22 pistol with snake shot is quite entertaining,& solved my problem.

1. What's the big deal? We've got some cats and, as far as I can tell, a pass or two with a vacuum takes care of fur just fine.

2. Please keep the cat killing sentiment to yourselves. The cats my wife brought home are quite friendly and entertaining. Dogs, on the other hand...man, I caught my neighbor's dog crapping in my yard and I shot it. Oh, man...it rolled all over the place before it died. It was awesome.

...OK, I'm obviously being sarcastic, but what if I were serious? It would make me look like an immature a$$hole, no?

The reason I shot the little bastards was because my cover was TORN UP after I went to the owners house several times(that didn't work),Called the city several times filing a complaint(didn't work),tried a humane trap for 2 months(caught 3 of their 6 cats..not the ones that did the damage).
So, I took it in my own hands to take out the ones I saw on the cover.

todd, while I can't really condone killing someones pet, I whole heartedly condone you killing someone's pet. If that makes any sense. We always just threw firecrackers at them, eventually they figure out that they don't like M80's. Pellet gun is also effective. We just got a dog that eats cats, pit bull terrier to carry the area.

my $.02... a hair brush (the one that's full of bristles, not a vent brush) usually works well, as does just keeping a bucket to dip your hand in and "brush" the hair into one place to pick it up... Generally works great on cat hair... and helps even with the dog hair in the truck.
