| I have a 2003 parks 133 board. I currently have 1.3 A wings on it, but i heard that the 1.1's make it ride a whole lot better. Is this true, or are they BS'ing me?

is this a joke?
you are asking if 0.2 inchs is going to make your riding better?!
when its that small its not going to make that big of a deal, maybe a little when its real smooth or choppy out

yes it is true, the 1.1 will make a big difference, the 1.3's make the board so sticky but the 1.1s will loosen it up a bit and make the board release a lot easier. If they make .7 a wings, id put them on.
wkbrdr, youve obviously not ridden a parks because if you did, you would know how tight the board is on the water with 1.3's, the .2 makes a huge difference

| iownu, depends on how you want the board to feel. Like Kyle said, the 1.3's will keep the board from slipping around more under you, but it's a bit harder to do surface stuff, or slide out the rest of a trick if you mess up perhaps. If you are more of a beginner, I'd say try to keep on the 1.3s to get the feel for it. If you're a much more experienced rider, the 1.1s will give you a bit more freedom. Again Kyle stuck it with better release.

I had a parks 138 and couldnt stand the 1.3's.
Yes, 0.2 does make a difference.
If you rock the hyperlite fins they are pretty expensive so make sure you want the 1.1's and not the 0.7's.
Those 1.3 fins stick way to much.

As others have said .2" makes a huge difference in the feel of the board. I've been playing around with my set up a great deal this year. I started the year off with an 03' Byerly with 1.4 P wings. Then I went to a Double Up Nelson with the 1.0 fins. I am now riding an 01 Byerly with modified fins.
The 01 Byerly is the older style of board that came with those huge 2.0 cleaver fins (way too sticky for me). I pulled the 1.0 fins off of my Double Up and put them on the 01 Byerly. That was way too loose. Finally I took some 1.2 P wings (the newer style fin) and put them on the 01 Byerly (I had to drill holes in the board to make them work). With the 1.2 P wings this board was back to being too sticky again.
I took a Roto-Zip power tool with a grinding bit and sanded down the 1.2 P wings to about .08. I also shortened the end of the fins a tiny bit as well. It took a couple of trips to the water and a couple of more sanding sessions on the fins to get it just right. Now the board is perfect for my riding style. It is sticky enough to get up on edge, yet loose enough to do surface 360's. This is now the best board I have ever ridden!
Don't be afraid to play around with your set up. Everyone rides different and has different preferences. You would be surprised how nice a 3 year old, $100 used board can ride if you put the right fins on it. I was.

well, I cracked my '03 nelson 141, and I may just stick with my parks for a little while. If I do, I think I'm going to try some P wings.

| Alright, So people have been complaining about the parks' fins since last year (although this year they ship with the 1.1s). I am no exception. My board came with the 1.3's and the board was way too sticky. So, I sold them on ebay. I went out and bought some .8" Liquid Force Xtra Long Base fins (similar to the P-wing fin shape) for about $45. Board rides perfect with these fins on. Nice and sloppy when flat and grips perfectly when on edge. Moral of the story, save yourself about $35 and get new fins from a different company. Of course, you will have to remove the metal inserts from the board cause the screw holes are too small and sand the fins down a little, but some of us like to mess around with that sort of thing. At least I do.

I was thinking the same thing... 80 bucks for the hyperlite fins? c'mon!

Craig-R, while you were complaining, it's nice to see you took the time to answer his question.
PMart, based on the rest of the posts, you can tell that if you want to have more traction in the water and a better edge-hold, you are going to want to go with a longer fin. if you want the board to slip around a little more, go with a shorter one. you will have to look on hyperlite's website (Click here to go there) to tell the difference between the A-wing and the P-wing. i have the 1.1" A-wings on my 136 parks and it gives a good hold, yet it is still easy for me to get loose from them.

ive got to agree that board rides the best with the .7s on it ,hands down..
if it was me and i didnt want to rake out the cash and 1.0 would work the best for you just grind the 1.3s down to 1.0 best of both worlds...cheap easy fix if you know where a table based grinder is at..

my advice is to get the 4.5 inch landlock fins. They would be solid

If you're going to go 4.5, you might as well go 6, or even 8 inches and make it real man. Think "rudders' Not 'fins'. SOOPER solid brother.

Well since this is back, I'm currently wondering about decreasing the size of my fins. I have the '03 Parks with 1.3s and just found 4 1.0 P-Wing fins on buywake for $40.00. Do you think this will loosen up the board enough for me or should I go even smaller?
Thanks!
