hey all!
i was just reminded of my first time out... and i'm getting stoked because i'll be (fingers crossed) riding again in 2 weeks, out in cali!!!!! so i was wondering if any of you all would like to reminisce and share your stories of your, or someone you know, first experience riding.
my first time out was at the delta in cali... man, JAMES & ROBERT were so cool! they took me out, recorded me, and made me a dvd to capture how stupid i looked doing faceplant after faceplant - naaahh, it was cool of them... funny footage, priceless. so i was watching the dvd the other day, and i was like, wow i can't believe i didn't get more laughs out of these guys?!
here are some pics (i know, i know..."get a tan")... NOW IT'S YOUR TURN!
take care all.

THIS IS IN RESPONSE TO THE "POSER" ACCUSATIONS... it took me like an hour to type and then i couldn't find the post?! so here it is...
woah, chill babe. so you got burned by a poser, huh? jk! let me tell you a little story... about a year and a half ago, i was told by someone (who wakeboards avidly) to come to this site and check out the vid he made. so i did it, for him. and while i have always been attracted to such extreme sports, it wasn't until then that i started to look towards wakeboarding. after checking out his vid, i dissected the rest of the site - looking at pics, tricks, articles, etc. i thought, "yeah, this looks like something i could really get into! i'd love to do it... but how?" and you know, a light bulb WOULD have gone off that flashed, "ask the avid wakeboarder who has been doing this for half of his life" but then my senses said, "no dumby, don't you remember how big of a snot he is?"
point being, i got ignored by him, straight up. he was such a pretentious fk about the whole thing... he gave me the ever so unnecessary "you're a poser, tude". he'd even joke about taking me out on his boat and teaching me... i'd be all set the day that it was suppose to go down, and then i'd get...STOOD UP! so whatever, i realized i'd have to do find another means. and i did, thanks to the fact that there are SOME REALLY COOL WAKEBAORDERS OUT THERE WHO ARE ALL ABOUT THE LOVE! my first time out was last august at disco bay, the delta, california. it was amazing - the perfect day (THANKS JAMES & ROBERT!!). all i wanted to do was to ride every single day, from then on... but i couldn't hook up a ride back where i lived and the weather turned to crap soon. november rolled around and i was fortunate to hook up with tiff down south for a day of riding (THANKS TIFF!). and now it's march, and i'll be hopefully riding in cali with my compadre kyle wells.
bigger ponit being, i've gone out twice... so what does that make me in your book (i'm not asking for an answer, i just want you to think about it, hence this is superficially retorical)??? i've never claimed to be a wakeboarder, just someone who wants to get into wakeboarding... so what have i been doing since my first time out? MOLESTING THIS SITE OF COURSE (and reading wb mags)! why? because right now, i can't ride - black & white. so this is the next best thing.
there is a caveate to throwing around the word "POSER", just ask funk!
focus on educating the ignorant, it's a more positive form of action - no doubt.
take care, kiddo!!

My first time was last year, I begged my parents for a wakeboard for 5 years till then, I had never gone or known anyone who has. so i went out with a few friends behind my seadoo and just tried and tried till i finally got up. It was hard because no one had any idea what they were doing but we stuck with it and got it. Now because of me there are 5 more wakeboarders on the lake and 2 more have bought their own wakeboard so they dont have to bum my cheap-@$$ one. (which is getting replaced by a Parks 138 DNA and 03 ultra sucs within the next month) CANT WAIT TO RIDE

be sure to post pics of your new baby, when you get it!! also, i'd love to see pics of you riding behind a seadoo - that's impressive.
take care.

did you forget i'm from chile? and that i was practically born from the pacific ocean? sharks are afraid of me... i think it has to do with the fact that i smell like cookies? besides... i thought we were going out to the delta? i guess if we ride during the week, we'll have to ride with sharks, huh? that's okay... if i can handle the crocks and omega big pink crane down at the bayou (right tiff - wink, wink), i should be peachy!
first time = ha ha ha, you're so romantic... i'll let you know mine...
take care!

You mean you have never heard of the Delta Sharks, Frankie?????
They're all over the place, especially this time of year. They come in the bay, and upstream into the delta to have babies! They get to be real mean....they bite people all of the time! |

| my first time was behind a old ski boat at a sleep away camp, i learned how to get up, then i went home, and did the closest thing i could get to, cable, so i learned on cable, took me forever to learn how to get used to it, and took me forever to get used to the corners, but now i ride all the time and love it (i ride cable though, not boat, no access to a boat) |

kyle.
i think it was something like "pyroboy..." ... any way, pyroboy posted this thread about posers... "a call to arms vs. the posers" ??? something like that... basically, he was like, "there are posers on this site and we should get rid of them!" so i wrote this verbose reply (which took me for what seemed like forever) and then i couldn't post it... and i couldn't find the post? maybe it got deleted? yeah, probably. any way, i thought it was an important point that pryoboy should think about... plus, i wasn't about to have wasted my entire afternoon for nothing! ha ha!
WE ARE ALL ABOUT THE LOVE!!
take care.

i'd like to try out a cable park... are there any in cali??? i don't think so? i'll be out there soon, and i don't have a boat... plus it's so much more individual - like you don't have to find a thirdp, rep the boat, etc. ... you can just go when you want to go for as long as you'd like, etc. i'll have to look into it!
THANKS!
take care.

| ya there are 2 in florida, ski rixen in deerfield beach, and OWC (orlando watersports complex) which is in orlando.....i think cali would be a good place for a cable also, the wheather is great, its a big extreme sports state (skating, surfing, etc) there jsut need to be someone who would invest the money into building one there.....there was talk on here of a cable in kansas, but i dont know if its true |

Kyle- A cable park in Cali? Sounds like a good idea. The farm land around Sac has a buch of private comp lakes but nothing for wakeboarders.
My first time- Well it was Valentines day and wait I'm not going to tell you!!!
We bought a ski and didn't like it. When we returned it the store gave us store credits so we had to buy something there. Bought a wakeboard and headed to Shasta for the rest of the week. Learned behind an I/O without any idea of how to do it. I was trying surface spins that first day. Also learned how to faceplant. _________________ If I agreed with you we would both be wrong. |

the faceplant? that's "my move" too!! and i stuck it on the first try... actually, i don't mean to brag or anything... but i didn't really even have to try... it was like a force of magatism... my face + the water...neat-o, huh? ha ha!
kyle.
if the wakeboard gods say, "let there be a cable park in cali, and it is so... are they going to have to transport some sharks to give it that "homey" feel??? hehe...
take care you two.

the first time I ever wakeboarded had to have been atleast 5 years ago...
I can't even remember what company made the board, but my friends mom bought us a directional and I remember it saying "5150" over the lead sandal binding. I remember hating it, because I could not get used to standing sideways on the board, Id always choose the kneeboard or slalom for a while there. My friend had a knack for it tho, and he was clearing the wake in no time.
I remember one day I made up my mind I was going to ride the thing and get comfortable on it, and I remember boning out a tail grab, and that was like the coolest thing . At the time, the biggest thing both of us could pull was a ts 2 in. 180 - somehow we got it in our heads that it was called a fakie _________________ http://www.wakepics.com/view_single.php?medid=16993 one of few trips i got to make to the lake this year |

| My first time wakeboarding I couldn't get up, I just kept falling over on my face. I got really pissed off and quit. But then I decided to try again and then I finally got up and I remember for like 2 or 3 days I could only stay on one side of the wake, I was scared to try and cross the wake! |

didn't try again till the next year and then got up and it was all good from there, i also remember this one face plant, where i decided i was gonna get huge air did like a railey on accident, came down flat on my face, and forgot to close my eyes, I thought i had knocked out my eye, or knocked in my eye i guess _________________ ow thats gonna hurt tomorrow

| wow... i was just chillin on the surface, riding, and i don't know what happened? all of a sudden, the wakegods said, "okay, time for frankie to fall" ... and i did a faceplant - with my eyes open. i chipped a tooth (no worries, you can't really tell just by looking), tore the inside of my lip, my face was numb, and i swear, i swear, i swear, my eyelids were temporarily folded the wrong way!! it was funny... even, i had to laugh at myself... just as soon as i got over pooping my boardshorts from the event (jk). |

| i had a bad fall the other day on a slider, i fell on my back, and slid half of it on my back and fell off the end, since i have the molded vest from jp is broke my fall so luckily i didnt get hurt when i hit it on my back, but when i hit the water i was cracking up so hard, i couldnt get my board off, my friend who was right next to the slider didnt know what to think until she saw me laughing, it was a really bad fall, just thought i would share |

| kyle- i've talked to the guy whose planning on building the cable in south cali. real nice guy and wakeskates a lot. he was touring the cable's in the us just seeing what he liked about each one. i don't remember his name but he's got the cash already (family backing) and was looking for a good location and he he got the # of a guy named kai (has built the cables here in the US). so although i won't confirm it i'd say to look for one in the future. |

my first came about after moving away from the snow, had to satisfy my needs, it involved a 1997 thomas horrell pro model a tinny and a 15hp outboard, needless to say 3 days later we were looking for a bigger boat/motor, so glad we did. _________________ Wide-A-Wake Board Sports
