Not everytime you fall, but sometimes yes.
In skiing you don't go way in the air either now do you |

I'd say out of 15 falls, there's 1 where I get hurt, and not even a serious injury. _________________ Some female cows have horns, but you wouldn't really know anything about that now would you? |

Wakeboarding is slower and most of your falls are going to be catching an edge and fcae/back planting. With skiing your momentum should normally be in a horizontal direction so you just skip when you fall. Wakeboarding does seem to provide more opportunity for injury. The main thing is to go all out when ever you try something. With wakeboarding, like many other sports, if you don't give it 100% effort you won't give yourself enough speed or air to pull off the trick so you set yourself up for disaster with your fear. _________________ Wakeboard/Waterski/Kneeboard/Ride Random Objects

Just what simland said....Usually when you get hurt it's going to b by catching an edge...Most falls happen so quikly next thing you know ur sitting there just bobbing in the water, and no pain...I've never really gotten hurt my self any other way other than catching edges. First time i tried a butter slide i got it, 2nd time sucked, went to transistion out switch, and face planted it, my body didn't sting but felt like someone had hit me with a sledge hammer a bunch of times, and my lips were bleeding. Then last weekend i tried my first 180, way over rotated and caught my heel edge. Suffered a real minor concusion....
But hey, a few owies here and there is worth it....part of the risk...

| Norcalboarddude is right. mostly when you fall its so fast and doest hurt at all and then you just float there. but some falls do hurt. ive found that the falls when first learning hurt mroe then some falls doing inverts and stuff. |

well, i can say that everytime i go out i manage to do a face plant at some point. usually because i'm trying something new and catch my front edge so i get a complementary eye & nose wash followed up by a killing headache and a minor concussion (pretty sure). For some reason i can't manage to hit the backside on the water. I have gotten better tho at landing on my arms before i hit my face. generally after one of those crashes i'm in the boat as flagger because i really value my brain and don't want to do too much damage in one swoop. you gotta go big if you want to learn. a few scrapes and bruises will heal and the feeling you get from doing something you've never done before is soooo worth it! _________________ I'm learning slowly.... don't laugh when I can't land my jumps- at least I'm out on the water trying!
I LOVE doing face plants- they clean out my sinuses and make my body feel WONDERFUL the next day! |

The main things are faceplants. YOu can get headaches, but i think they make you more aware. Kinda like coffee. coffee, coffee coffee coffee!!!!!!!!!!!!! _________________ I'm so cool!!!!...I think? |

| matteoman has it right on...I can fall backwards all day...even a few high speed crashes from the air aren't bad..but the faceplants where your front edge hits first keep me awake at night in fear... |

| Last summer I went to the eye doctor after a bad case of whiplash from a fall, and he told me I had torn a small hole in my retina. Doctor said that can happen when your head is struck violently, like in a faceplant. But hey, I'm still boarding, eyesight's overrated anyway. |

| Depends on which was you fall. If you fall head first its going to hurt. If you fall a$$ first its gonna tickle a little bit but you will get over it. |

| accually a helmet helps out with concusions from hitting the water, along with the board hitting your head. helmets are not bad, kinda comfertable and it protects your eardrums. if she is offering to spend the doe to buy you a helmet, let her do it,....you can never have too much boarding gear |

Haha, I never thought about a helment helping with hitting the water. what was I thinking. I always assumed it was for if you planned on doing sliders. Yea, wakeboarding is slower and crashes aren't too bad unless like the guys already said you catch your edge. I was doing a butterslide last year and caught a bad edge. It just caused a headache. Once I started learning to jump a lot of the time I'd come down and catch the front edge of my board. But you really don't realize that you crashed till its over, and it's definately worth it. Anyone who hasn't ever wakeboarded should DEFINATELY try it. |

jaycee, Definately look into helmets, your kids may not think theyre cool, and alot of ppl dont but until they know exactly what theyre doing they should wear one. Kids are very flexible which make it very easy to scorpion (face planting HARD and having your board come up behind you with your feet still in the bindings and strike you in the back of your head). So if you want to be extra safe with the kids id say buy them helmets. Make them wear it until they know what theyre doing and then after that they keep it on when theyre learning new tricks.
wakeboardin_kraZ, The board is on your feet but trust me by experience and a hospital visit which included stitches, it can happen. Especially with young people. We are very flexible! You may not think its cool to wear one but you wont exactly feel cool eather when your gettin put into an emergency room and come out with stitches and blood everywhere. |

ive done the "scorpion" and put a little opening in my head. but i didnt feel it till i was out and i touched it and my hand was bloody..it healed in like 3 weeks though..i havent tried a helmet but i was thinking like skateboarding its kinda a distraction? is that true with wakeboarding? _________________ money doesnt buy happiness...they should end that phrase with (just kidding) |

First time up - my wife didn't remember how fast she was supposed to go. She later told me she was probably going about 30 (guess she got caught up in the excitement). Anyway, also did my first face-plant that run. I had a neoprene life vest and wet suit on. It still felt like someone had smacked me with a 2x6 across the chest. Since adjusting my wife's speed on the boat the falls are pretty mild really. NO big air for me yet though. Still a newbie. Ahhh, the pain to come! _________________ Shifting from day to night, shifting from snow skiing to wakeboarding, shifting from professional to professional goof-off - always shifting. |

I caught an edge last weekend. I didn't face plant but I must have stretched out my body because all of my stomach and neck muscles hurt until yesterday and created some aweful sinus pain too.
I've been a skier for 23 years and only had one bad fall and it only hurt for half an hour. I've definately pulled more muscles wakeboarding, luckily no serious injuries yet. |

The helmets with the ear pads help alot with protecting your ear drums. The ones without them help a little, but are mainly for decreasing injury by means of impact.
My main injuries are ankle/knee injuries plus some bruises and concussions. The more stuff you're trying, the more likely you are to get hurt, but then, people get hurt walking around their own houses. |
