surface 180's are all about shifting weight, if you're weight isn't away from the boat when you turn the board, your fins will catch. Some people recommend taking your fins off and doing it to get the feel for it, but I don't recommend this, 'cause it's a different feel with fins, and you should learn it with them on. Have you tried riding switch before? 'cause if not it will be more difficult.
here's my mini surface 180 instructional:
1. Stand regular, you want your weight almost evenly distributed on both feet, just enough extra on the back to keep you from falling forward. This is so that both fins are at least almost all the way out of the water.
2. Let go with your front hand (left hand if your regular with left foot forward, right hand if you're goofy footed)
3. Let yourself turn, should be almost automatic, changing where your hand is place on the handle, or pulling the handle towards your body can help if it's not.
4. It should be quick, it's not so much lean back as it is don't lean forward, once the turn is complete, put most of your weight on you back (now left) foot.
yeah, that's my MINI instructional, if you still have problems after trying that, just let me know. _________________ Some female cows have horns, but you wouldn't really know anything about that now would you?

I went from ollies to a butterslide and didn't know what the hell I was doing. It was cool till I face planted and ended up in the boat for the rest of the day with a massive headache. Butterslides are like a rail grind from skateboarding. Just ride up the wake and try to stay there- that's about all I can tell you for how to do it. _________________ I'm learning slowly.... don't laugh when I can't land my jumps- at least I'm out on the water trying!
I LOVE doing face plants- they clean out my sinuses and make my body feel WONDERFUL the next day! |

I just got butterslides down yesterday. Easy to learn, more like board sliding a rail on a skateboard. I was stoked, slammed on my first try, second one I slid for a while on top of the wake and then came off clean. |
