John- The difference is that you or your friend never purchased the product , DVD VHS CD. By downloading it and keeping it you have replaced a purchase. If you DL the file and choose to purchase it there isn't an issue. I'm not against file- sharing but I wanted to make it clear that what you are doing is taking money out of the hands of the people who worked to create that entertainment for you.
