i'm having problems going w2w. i'm relatively new to wakeboarding, i've been working on proper edging towards wake and stance and all that stuff, its coming together but i'm still not clearing. i'm riding about 73 feet out at about 26 mph. i've gone w2w last year on my friends boat so i know i can do it. my wife, gbh, wants me to clear so bad so as she saw me getting ready to edge into the wake she took me to about 30 mph, i hit on the back side of the wake. what length should i be at and about what speed. can anyone help. oh, i'm 6'2" 215# if that makes any diff.

Shorten your rope to about 65-70 ft and go alittle bit slower and keep a consistant speed... it should help you out

Yeah, shorten up the rope and go slower. Your wife should not be changing the speed while you're riding. You really want to stay at a consistent speed that you're comfortable with. I recommend finding a speed you like, then lengthening the rope to match where the wake is at it's peak at that rope length.

For your expeirence 18-20 mph is plenty fast enough. If you wipeout going 30-40 its gonna end up making you gun shy. Wipeouts going 18-20 are alot less punishment and it is plenty fast enough to clear the wake.

What we did to dial in our rope length and speed was to look at your boat's wake and see where the crest is at it's highest, since this obviously will be where you'll get the most height with yer air, and position the legnth accordingly. So, the rope length will be relative to your boat's performance. Also, you might try picking up a viddy or 2 about wakeboarding, or read some of the trick info here at this site and others, to perfect your progressive edge. Progressive edge is the beggining concept to catching big air and getting adequate "pop" off the wake. As far as speed goes, I would say that you're most definitely on the too fast side. Most riders average about 18-22 mph, with slight variations on that. You can slow down to 15 mph (depending on yer weight this could be too slow) to practice switches or other beginning manuevers that are easier to test at slow speeds.
Have a great summer!

I say ride 55-60. Go roughly 21-23 mph.

What size is your wakeboard also?
