| I read somewhere that you are suposed to soap your bindings so you slip out of them in the event of catching an edge hard, instead of breaking body parts. Is there any truth to this? |

well.....all i can say is that i would never use soap because of the fact that your feet are constantly slipping out of your bindings.....when you cut out toeside your heel pops up and out......if you were to jump heelside and land like that you would get a nasty ankle splittage....and the fact that soap is harmful to the lake and ruins your bindings.....it dries them out like a bastard _________________ "Live to wakeboard, wakeboard to live" |

I have suction bindings... I HAVE to use soap to get them on. The soap doesn't remain in your bindings to make you slip out while riding, the water washes it off as soon as you get into the water. It is nearly impossible to get my feet in the bindings without soap. I forgot soap once & it took me 10 mins to get my feet into them. I have a size 5.5 foot(female), & my bindings fit upto a size 11 mens & I have never slipped out of them. I don't think the soap hurts the lake or fish life more than the exhaust from a boat.

| I don't think that you will break body parts by not using soap. Usually soap comes out when you get in the water anyways. But if you really want your bindings to come off when you bite it hard than use sunscreen and your board will fly right off. I know someone that does that because they're afraid of breaking bones... but I've never heard that it would make a difference. |

| You use soap to get into bindings not to slip out. Having said that spend a few bucks and get some real binding slime, it works better, washes out of your bindings and doesnt hurt the lake. |

I keep a bottle of Purel Shampoo on the boat just to get into my bindings. Just a small enough amount to get my foot in. I apply to boot entry and wet my foot and in it goes. Once in water it washes off.

| joedirt00, if you're worried about being able to slip out don't tighten you're bindings so tight. Soap is to get into the binding. |

Joy soap the best in my opinion, it doesnt dry out ur bindings and it just dissipates in the water and washes out of ur binding as soon as u get it in the water. _________________ WAKE up, Go to school, Go ride, Play drums, Play hockey, Go to sleep. And then do it all over again!! |

soap will make you come out of the bindings easier but I personally don't want to come out of mine. I prefer to use natures lubricant... WATER _________________ Does this rag smell like chloroform?

Ok Guys how about this. KY JELLY!!!
1- Its water soluble so it dissipates fast in the water
2- It doesn't affect rubbers so your bindings should be ok
3- It is safe for humans so it should be safe for the lake
4- it's available at any grocery or drug store
I might try it out just for the hell of it! |

So you're saying that the bindings will get easier to get in, over time?
I also btw, think that water and a little effort is enough to get into my brand-new bindings. _________________ /Alva

Hm, really? Becuase there's not much strain on the neoprene parts of the bindings when I put them on, just on the laces. Hm, I just now realized that bindings with laces might be somewhat odd to use, are they? _________________ /Alva

I have to use soap too. If not i can't put my feet in at all. The soap will just wash off and my feet stay in there tight. Dial SOAP , it rules> _________________ Anything you can do I can do better.

Soap = bad for the environment
It messes with the composition of the water and shouldn't be used
Stop being so cheap and get some binding lube |

OK guys - I'm a newbie but this is how I see it.
Picture this - you are riding along minding your own business and having a good time. Then suddenly you catch an edge and down you go. You used soap so you are comfortable that you'll pop out of your bindings and everything will be OK.
But what's this - only one foot popped out. Much to your dismay, this huge wakeboard now gets the pleasure of acting like a very large lever with the power of your speed against the lake twisting on it.
What's that snapping sound???? It's your leg snapping apart in what's called a spiral break. Almost impossible to fix correctly. You'll certainly be done for the summer and possibly for good.
Like I said, I'm a newbie but I understand physics fairly well. ABSOLUTELY the safest thing you could have happen when wiping out on a board is to have both feet firmly planted on the board.
Snow skis release for this exact reason. You don't want one ski twisting around while the other stays in place. I'm not a snow-boarder, but I don't think I've ever seen releases on them either.
ON THE SOAP FRONT --- those bindings can be a bear to get into. Use a little biodegradable soap to help get your feet in. Just a little mind you. It'll wash away quickly. Most of it even before you get up (on deep water water starts). Become one with the baord grasshopper
OK, I'll shut up now.

yeah, Shifter, we don't use soap with the intention of helping our feet slide out, that's why we use products that wash away. _________________ Some female cows have horns, but you wouldn't really know anything about that now would you? |

aloharodeo - I was referring to the original post in this topic asking if you should use soap to help you pop out in a wipeout. _________________ Shifting from day to night, shifting from snow skiing to wakeboarding, shifting from professional to professional goof-off - always shifting. |
