I wouldnt say that they are a must but certainly helpful and i would recommend one. A friend of mine was throwing tantrums and had a bad takeoff on one and landed upside down while still moving forwards. To make a long story short he busted his eardrum and had to sit out a summer of wakeboarding and still hasnt fully recovered from it. I would definatley recommend one if you are planning on going upside down but if you're not inverting, like me , I wouldnt wear one as it can be a bit uncomfortable at times.

Wakeboard Kid,
That's exactly why i got a helmet, heard stories of smashed ear drums and it doesn't sound fun. Also I wear it skating sometimes if I'm trying new stuff. _________________ I Love The Smell of Butta In The Morning |

| do helmets even cover your ears? but i dont have one so i dont know. I dont wear one and i do inverts and all that fun stuff. Basically if i rode on sliders i might wear one, but some also wear them so they have that invincible feeling i guess. yeah whatever peace |

I have a friend that hit a double up and came up short and landed on the peak of the second wake and the impact made them hit their head on their board...concussiona and big cut with stitches, but I still don't wear one, haha _________________ Keep Austin Weird |

| Ive never worn one but two days ago i scorpioned and cracked my head open so i will be wearing one for now on, atleast while im learning new things. The crappy thing is right before i did it i was saying how i had scorpioned b4 and how im so lucky that i didnt crack my head open and well i must just be lucky. And a couple people told me b4 i went out that i should wear a helmet and im like you only wear a helmet when your hitting rails or wakeskating and they were like your gunna hurt yourself one of these days and what do i do that afternoon, crack my head open.. jeez, teaches me for thinkin im invincible. |

| getting scorpioned is when your legs come up behind you with your board still attached and the board hits you in the head.. This is my second time with it happening but my first for it to cut my head open. MANNN my abs hurt from my body stretching as much as it did... I guess maybe it doesnt happen to guys as much because they arent as flexible? who knows. |

My friend said he was gonna do a butterslide, but he did it right in the middle of the two wakes and my board had some big ass fins on it so he caught immediatly and scorpioned himself... but he didn't get stitches... try staples. _________________ Laugh hard, it's a long way to the bank... |
