I keep getting the rotation but around the part when my legs catch up with my upperbody the handle pops out. I keep landing on my board but without the handle. Also I am switching edges hard and tugging with two hands so I don't know what Is wrong. I almost landed one but the handle was stretched out and ripped me out of my bindings onto my stomach. is there a secret to getting lots of slack?

A few things help with that. First, you want a pretty mellow edge coming in. Try to edge as if you were doing a poppy wake to wake tantrum, really take it straight up off the wake.

When you do come off the wake, pop a little more off your back foot (almost like a hs front flip) so that your head leans in toward the boat a bit on the beginning of the flip.

To initiate the move, make sure that you are throwing your head in toward the boat. Remember that when you're flipping and spinning on the whirlybird, you don't go upside down; your whole body should actually be lined up with the rope.

Try those, that oughtta help.

I am not doing any of that Neutral I cut in pretty hard, and i pop like a normal tantrum, and just try to hook the handle hard but it slowly extends away from me. does popping off your back foot help that much? It seems it would help get the handle in closer. as far as the going straight up I just let the wake kick me into the tantrum part, i don't really even think about that I just am worrying about the spin.I might be out tomorrow if i can get in before work Sad I'll tell you how it works out.also i can do poppy wake to wake tantrums with almost no slack but I don't get as much air as with my big ones but i'll give it a try.

Yeah, try those for sure. The whirlybird is a timing move. When I learned it, I had to take a real mellow cut in, because I wasn't used to the rotation. With a wake to wake one like that, you can get it so you hit the water right when you finish the move, making it real easy to land. Once you get the feel for that and for the move itself, then you can take it bigger.

Good luck!

Well i36hyperlite, I learned them first on a trampoline. That helped me know how it feels to get the right rotation, I think it helped me land the move. But really, if your tantrum is real consistent and pops up straight off the wake, you shouldn't be too far away from it.

When you do try it again, don't rush the move, and make sure you lead with your head. I've noticed that when trying new moves, if I expect to land it, I learn it a lot quicker. It's easy to expect to wreck on new moves, and that makes it harder to learn. So just do what you know it takes to do the move, and hold on to the handle and try to ride it away.

One more thing: any time you try a new move, it feels like you are going to wreck, because your body isn't used to that kind of rotation. If you just hold on and stay confident, you'll spot the water and probably get pretty close. That's why the trampoline helps with this one I think.

The trampoline helps but when I was on the water the pull of the boat messed me up Confused I don't do whirlys on the tramp anymore because I fell off to many times Shocked But it definatley gave me the confidence to just go for it.

that advice really helped get slack in the rope. If I get time tomorrow I think I will stick it. Every time I land on my board with the handle but I either fall forward or back. I am trying to find the median right now. I rode a bit on one than slowly started to fall back and couldn't ride fully away. thanks! Very Happy

It was choppy today But I am getting close. If it is calm I usually get better pop and for some reason I leave earlier when choppy. http://photos.wakeboarder.com/showphoto.php?photo=4674&password=&sort=7&thecat=500
