| It is not difficult, (in my opinion), to ride one handed, if you hold on with your lead hand then let go with the other, (obviously). I find that wwhen there is a lot of chop and i am cutting on my toes if i let go with one hand i get better balance. In fact in my opinion it can be easier to ride one handed. |

Do you surf carve with 2 hands? I usually use 1 hand for this. One handed is not too hard at all, in fact it seems more natural to me because my body goes completely sideways. _________________ Wakeboard/Waterski/Kneeboard/Ride Random Objects

I've only been wake boarding for a few weeks but I've gone one handed since the first time I got up and stayed up. I usually only use two hands if it's a long ride and my arm is getting tired. I skateboard all the time though and it feels more natural to me to have my bindings at 0 degrees and go one handed. Besides how are you going to drag your rear hand through the water on a low carve if your holding on with both hands? |

I'm always more comfortable with one hand on but it does tire out your shoulder alot faster........ and ya obiviously can't pull as hard into the wake with one hand on. _________________ Deep Thoughts By Jack Handy

| 1 hand riding is easier then 2 for me. I can just sit there and not even try and stay up. When i carve in its 2 hands most the time because its more power |

its really really hard to cut in with one hand and pretty much pointless. but if you did you want the handle right in towards your waist. |

| i would not cut in with one hand. You shoudl ride with two hands, i would try and get used to that, it can be easier to ride with one, but if you want to try tricks and progress your need to get used to two. If you try wake to wake one handed you will turn when your in the air. Of course all of what i am saying is different if you are "pro". |

Well your dad has a point. Holiday weekends are a horrible time to try and board on the lake. Unless, you get up early and hit the lake as the sun comes up...
If you don't get out until the afternoon its almost pointless to try. There'll be so much chop that you'll be tired in no time. Not to mention all the people make it dangerous. Thankfully Austin doesn't allow jet skis on holidays... woo hoo! |

One hand is good for me to relax, but I always use 2 cutting back in for speed.

alright i'm no pro but i think i'm wise enough on this topic.
riding with one hand ...sure it looks good and its more relaxing but you should NEVER ride one handed unless you are relaxing and not doing anything (which you should be doing something at all times unless it is extremely choppy, too choppy to cut)
riding one handed brings in bad habits and is terrible for your mechanics. it looks cool, but dont you think a raley would look cooler?
i understand that you are a beginner and are just trying what you think you could do but, you should be working on cutting and jumping. its all about balance. If you have balance you can ride one handed all day. When the water is waaaaay choppy and i cant cut and i'm waiting on smooth water, i'll ride around one handed just leaning back and relaxing, resting while wakeboarding (you didnt think that was possible )
but to answer your question, just lean back and hold on with your leading hand with your back hand behind you.
to one armed bandit - sorry to hear about that...but cutting toeside...just do the same as heelside i would say...progressive edge all the way.

Yea, I saw this thread awhile ago and did not comment then. I guess I should have. Do not ride one handed. There is no reason to take a hand off the handle unless you are grabbing the board or passing the handle. I mean if you are just screwing around or something, fine, but all tricks, edging, etc. require two hands on the handle. Darin Shapiro doesn't ride around the lake one-handed. _________________ Check out https://www.facebook.com/darcizzleoffshore |

Hmmm.. I only hold use one hand only when I am resting or just waiting for smoothter water.. or tried to get pumped do to sumin.. I would think you would lose SERIOUS speed, power and control if you were cutin only with one hand... but.. thats just me.. and im not very good lol!

| In the time I have been wakeboarding, I have discovered that if I do a toe side cut, I am not very effective with two hands on the rope since my body is facing away (basically back to the boat) and my arms don't quite reach that way. On a HS cut, I use both hands. Now for the interesting part, I get better pop on the toe side cut! And yes, that is one-handed. One thing I do everytime I get up on the wake board on my first set is a series of exercises cutting first between the wakes, then crossing the wakes to get my head screwed on straight and test the boats wakes and my rope length behind the boat and this has improved my cuts immensely and educated me. I really don't know why it works for me the way it does. Maybe I am a little unusual, who knows. I just don't see how one can get a good cut toe side with their back to the boat and both hands on the rope. Part of the problem for me is I am lone wakeboarder in a group of active waterskiers. So there isn't much help for me there... If someone could post a photo of a two-handed TS cut, I would appreciate it. |

Yea, im no pro, but some of you guys sound like idiots. Pros ride around all the time with one hand. Watch their videos, between tricks, they dont ride with both hands on the handle. Its more confortable with one hand (once you get the hang of it) I dont suggest trying to do any wake jumps with one hand, i dont see that helping at all, unless maybe its more comfortable for a ts jump. You definetly need to learn to ride one handed. Watch the pros, when they land some tricks, they land with one hand on the handle. learning to ride with one hand can only help your riding. _________________ Wake4Life |
