Last time I rode the driver was driving slower than I normally ride, but I didn't feel like asking him to adjust the speed. When we went slower I got quite a bit more hieght than at the faster speed, but I couldn't get w2w. Do I need to ride slower or just work on my technique when riding faster?

p.s. My speedometer doesn't work so I don't know what speed I was going.

er, my guess is you were able to do mroe of a progressive edge and actually stand up rather than fight the boat and just get pulled off your edge. I would recommend that you stay at the slower speed (unless it is 19 or below) and work on your w2w ability. Try cutting out a little further if you are getting decent height.

Wakeworld had an "ask the pro" article that talked about this very thing. Basically, as you increase the speed you have to increase the line length to get more speed to clear the wake and hit the best part of the wake. It's likely you may have found the best line length/boat speed for your comfort level. I found the same thing when we dropped our line into like 60'. W2W was much easier, more comfortable, more natural. We went out to 65' last time out and it was much harder and I crashed a lot more. I think I am just not yet ready for the extra speed needed to clear the wake at the longer length.

Take it slow, as you get more stable increase the speed and give yourself a little more line.

the wake is bigger when you go slower. and the wake is wider. so that could be why you got height and not distance.

I ride at 65-70 feet (including handle) behind an I/O with 600#+lots of people and go very fast for that length, 24mph. I have found I get higher and go into the flats sometimes since it is easier for me to stay on edge and the size of the wake doesn't change much. At slower speeds I can not stay on edge as well, and my board travels slower. When you have a small wake, you rely more on your speed and line tension to get air more than when you have a bigger wake. I would recommend you have higher speeds for wider wakes.
