Ok, I want to get everyones opinion on how to get the best pop. I am definitly a beginner. I can carve, do all the surface tricks, and ollie about 2ft high. I have always tried to do wake jumps but iv had no success until a few weeks ago. I read everything i could on a progressive edge and standing tall at the wake, but i dont think it really worked for me. I got 1-2 feet of air at best, and i was never able to make it to the other wake. At the beginning of the summer, I really started to work on my ollie, and then tried to incorporate it into my wake jump. I only went a couple of feet outside the wake, edged in, and pushed down when i hit the wake, much like i do on an ollie but not as hard. I got more air then i have ever been able to get. Today, i just about made it w2w with about 3-4 feet of air. I feel like i have found the pop that everyone talks about, but im afraid that im not suppose to be pushing down when i hit the wake. I have never read anywhere that you should push down. Im not jumping, but i may be pumping the wake (if it means what i think it does). Am i on the right track, or is there something else I need to be doing. I understand this is hard to understand without video, but any help would be great. Thanks

dont think about it. Just cut out far, and go balls out at the wake w/ a progessive edge, and you will land on the downside and be like damn that was fun.......... lets do it again.

P.S. Welcome to heaven Very Happy

it sounds like your doing it right. by pushing down you are standing tall and stiffening your legs so you dont absorb the wake.

chickens right. If you feel comfortable with your "pop" and you feel in control while you in the air then stick with it. The more times you do it the better youl get. main points are progressive edge, handle close to your hips and stand tall, which it sounds like your doing.

Good luck mate!

sounds like you are popping correctly, you just don't hear it reffered to as "pushing down" but essentially that is what standing tall is.

This is my third season riding and I have be half assing my progressive edge. This season I finally figured it out and and am 2-3 feet higher. I will try to explain. My best side is from left foot forward cutting right to left. (while out on the water looking at the boat) I get on the gas/most resistance on the line as i get closer to the wake. This proves to be difficult as your obviously going fast but more over your you have line tention. Tention on the line pops you not speed. (well not as well) previous years I was going hard at the wake letting up on the tention then sailing accross the wake. Now i take a shorter run at the wake but dig in and ride it all the way through. BIG DIFFERENCE>

Another example if you ride dirtbikes. If your on a 2 stroke 80, 125,or 250 and blast off a jump you dont go as fast as you can to the lip of the jump and then let off. Properly done your in the lowest gear possible to clear the jump BUT your wide open and into the powerband as far as it will go. ZINNNNNG your airborn. Very similar.

Did i just make any sense? Idea
