Hi all,

Went out for the first time yesterday and couldn't get up at all. My problem was I was trying to let the boat pull me up but the board wasn't staying up on the top of the water, the water was rushing over the top of the board so I had too much resistance to be able to stand up, anyone know the reason behind this?

Thanks!

you were probably pushing with your legs. just relax your legs and arms. the pressure of the water should push your knees to your chest and then your but will be pulled up to your heels when you are on plane and then you stand. DO NOT TRY TO STAND UP TOO EARLY. also dont try and force it just have fun and relax.

Just curl up in a ball, let the boat do the work. Can't stress that enough. Just keep holding on, it might take a while but you will get up.

Don't forget to spin the board right away when you start feeling the boat pull you. That was my problem, I was waiting too long, and by the time the boat started really yanking, I couldn't get the tip of the board out of the water, causing me to plow.

Crouch your butt as close to the board as possible. As soon as you feel pressure, spin the board. Waiut a second or two, and stand up.

Once you do it, you'll be kicking yourself for how simple it is Smile

(Don't worry, it took me 3 times out to get it).

Fast351, this is a bad bit of advice usually the board will pretty much turn by it self if not you want to put your elbows around the knee of your front leg (right knee if goofy left if regular). trying to turn right away will throw most begginners of balance. and also the boat shouldnt be really yanking oyu it should be a pretty smooth pull especially if its a new boarder. if they are trying to get it up to speed before you are even up you might want to try a more experienced driver.

I just learned how to get up recently (second time out). Sounds to me like you are not leaning back far enough. That was my problem. Also I lean back far and as my board comes out of the water and starts to plane then I turn (so I'm sliding sideways on the board first). My friends recommend as soon as you feel the boat pull you turn and keep the nose pointed out of the water. I can't get up as easily that way. They are also about 50 pounds lighter than I am. My 3rd time out I was getting up almost every time and staying up for a bit. By the end of the day I was staying up for a while, carving back and forth, etc. Tomorrow will be my fourth time out (just bought a much better wakeboard than $100 Hydroslide with velcro bindings we've been using) and I'm sure by the end of the day I'll be able to cross the wakes, get up switch, and do surface 180s.

I'm getting addicted quickly Very Happy

Thanks all for the advice. I was able to get up today for about 20 second 3 seperate times. First time I did a faceplant which really hurt, second time was an ok stop but the third time I started to slolum by accident and couldn't regain my balance so I fell over. I'll have to work on my balance and then I should be able to start moving outside of the wake.

Nickels worth of free advise. When you lose control of the board, let go of the rope. Faceplants still hurt but less so if you scrub some speed.

Was just out last night and had my buddy drive the boat instead of my wife. Big difference. A better driver makes all the difference in the world.

Once you get up lean back a bit and relax. I've gone out a couple more times and am now able to cross the wakes, do small jumps coming back in from the outside, surf the wake, almost have butterslides/boardslides down. Once I get up I find it more comfortable to let go with my trailing hand and go one handed.
