Here is one that I could swear I saw in an upscale car stereo shop for about $850 or so....

Anybody know about audiobahn equipment?

Comments --- Reliability?

My $0.02 worth:
I am familiar with Audiobahn and it is OK. The amps at $289 will be solid enough but realize that price is a realistic price for the amp. A stereo shop pitching those for $850 was realistically selling them for $400-500 and making good coin doing it.
Just because they are cheap to buy doesn't mean they won't work perfectly fine for your application. if this would be to run a sub box on the boat, then the small percentage of degredation you get would be negligible for the average guy, yes some of the music affeciandos would be offended by the coloration of the sound even with the wind, motor and water noise. Rolling Eyes
Realize the power ratings are not 100% realistic, and the amp most likely will not be happy at 1 ohm mono, Keep it at 2ohm stereo or 4ohm mono and it will work.
Compare the amp to stuff like Lanzar, Alphasonik, Pyle, Fusion, Lightening, US Amps etc...
If you are looking for something better then look for a close out on last years or a used Rockford Fosgate, PPI, Phoenix Gold, Kicker, Orion, Soundstream etc...
I can't really comment on if it is good value or not as I live in Canada and all the Made in USA amps cost way more up here than down there so just check it against pricing on similar featured amps on Ebay and Crutchfield etc.
If you have any questions on gear feel free to PM me, (I've been in the stereo industry over 15years and am willing to help out a brother at anytime)
Always enjoy checking out your projects.
Cheers,

Audiobahn = BLING, and that's about it....

Seriously....If you want good quality and performance...it won't have chrome on it...I don't know of one high quality amp that is chrome that is worth it's coin...

Their subs....even more chrome...nothing really impressive for specs...peak like hell...and don't use their GODY looking surrounds for anything but to copy a w7...

Some amp brands to look into include:

Phoenix Gold
Precision Power Arts (old school)
Precision Power PC/PCI class
TRU (too expensive for a boat)
JL Audio (kind of overpriced if you ask me)
Elemental Designs (Performance, warranty, and bang for your BUCK!)
Mmats (lots of power, great efficiency)
Linear Power (small package, DAMN solid amp)

Some high quality subs are:

Elemental Designs Av.2
Resonant Engineering XXX and SE
Adire Audio Shiva, Tempest, and Brahma
Stereo Integrity Magnum D2 12/15
Image Dynamics IDQ/ID Max
JL Audio (I'll just throw this in cuz the price defines it as "high class")

There are more...but that's a start...Audiobahn is a favorite for the "bling suckers" out there....it's looks do not hold a candle to it's performance...it's amps are large, and overpriced, and their subs are all show and no go...

My recommendation, go with Audiobahn's chrome flame sub grilles. As was mentioned by Xaggerate, the "Bling" factor is great on these pieces. Anything else from Audiobahn, I'd pass on. Just my $.02.

Xaggerate, Stereo Integrity's subs use paper cones in them...isn't that a bad thing in a boat? Neutral

They'd be fine so long as you coat them... And they are for use in any application including home...

Linear Power. Are they still producing amps? They had some quality equipment 2000 and prior. Now I am not sure.

FYI, the head engineer that designed all the LP stuff from the late 80s on is now at Kicker and has been since 2000. You can see his trademark engineering in the stuff released in the last year or so.

Sorry for going off topic, but he was my best buddy when he lived up the road from me. I miss him, super intelligent and great guy.

um... coat them? In doing this, you're going to increase the mass of the cone, which will not only stress the surrounds, but may also degrade them- depending on what you coat with.

Plus, if its flexible, you're going to degrade the rigidity of the cone, which will end up tearing it. If it's rigid, you're going to degrade the flexibility of the surround (even if its masked, it will leak through the paper pulp, and into/onto the surround. This will cause the surround to crack.

Additionally, with more inertia on the cone, you're changing the timing of the excursion and excursion of the cone itself.

Bottom line, stay away from paper/pulp cones - unless they're coated/impregnated from the factory. Case in point- Alpine's Type-R series. They have a Kevlar impregnated pulp cone, with a plastic dustcap.
