So, does anyone know why it's still cool to knock the names of tricks that some of wakeboarding's greatest forefathers came up with (some of which were meant to be taken lightly)? I was just reading some stuff...which was what sparked this topic. What's the point of complaining about it and trying to look cool, when every other "legitimate" board sport out there has gone through the exact same thing (and here and there, they'll still honor the trick names). You've heard them before: mctwist, rodeo flip, caballerial, gay twist, hoochie glide, blah blah blah.
Quite frankly, what's worse to me is when people (i.e. magazines) think there's a difference between a hoochie glide and a method glide, resulting in two different names for what is essentially the same trick tweaked differently (you know, they're both grabbed method). It's either one or the other; there's no need for two trick tips with two names (of the same trick). But maybe that's just me.
So I'll meet you in the sandbox at 5?? _________________ J.L.A. Is Snowboarding

No offense, but to me, it's about riding. Not what the trick is called.

I think people spend too much time talking about the tricks they throw and not enough time enjoying the weather, friends, beer, boobs and the sport in general. I love every minute on the water |

| a hoochie is grabbed right behind your bindings and a method glide is grabbed METHOD which would be in between your bindings. believe me, there is a huge difference, go out and do a hoochie then try a method glide, the approach is completely different and the method glide is much harder |

| The one thing that annoys me is when certain tricks have different names when they're switch. Eg: Crow Mobe vs. Skeezer. Slim chance vs. Fat chance. |

on the hoochie method topic ... I have been told that if u grab heelside infront of the lead binding its melan untill to shifty backside then it become method ... but I dont really know ... I used to care what everything was called .. but I have finally outgrown that and im just out there to watch it and not spend all my time trien to call the trick by its proper name ... just spendin my time applauding for the style content _________________ "Worrying is like a rocking chair ... gives you something to do but it doesnt get you any where" Van Wilder |

the thing that gets me is what ty540 said, and like, if u do it handlepassed or wrapped or ole` then its a diff name too. The difference between wakeboarding and any other sport, is it has a rope, so, u really DO do a different trick, so i guess they all deserve different names. but, theres so many and their alll soooooo wierd, like im just starting to get em down. and iv been riding for like 3 or 4 years. _________________ eating popcorn is weird... |

I agree with ty540 and slaydit on the switch/regular thing. That's kinda silly.
I don't know what electricsnow is talking about...over my head I suppose.
How about to clear up the confusion we just come up with brand new official names for everything.
My contribution is to rename the front roll the doody stuffer. _________________ We are wakeboarders and our culture is advanced beyond all that you can possibly comprehend with one hundred percent of your brain. |

bizzuck, it's your call on the 911/raley thing. But, I think a 911 is a reverse stargazer...
Kyle, there are different ways to do a method. They all used to have different names (method, grasser, palmer, crossbone, etc) but now they're just called METHOD. There are people that grab in front of their front foot but that's life. There are snowboarders that do the same thing, and that's just they way they grab it (ie. Jamie lynn style or terje style). I guess it's just misinformation like this that erks me, but it's happened with snowboarding so it will just take time.
Quickly, melon is when you grab the board in between your feet with your front leg bonned, and with the base running parallel to the water. Do you guys remember what parks' suitcase grab deal? Well, that's how early methods were grabed, except you grabed the top edge of your board instead of under the base. Now there are more options for style...and the shifty doesn't make the trick a method, it's just a style thing.
ty540, I agree with you 110%. Why make things more complex than necessary? And when you think about it, it's kind of interesting that skateboarding has different names for grabs, depending on the direction of the "air" (holey moley does that sound lame). You know, frontside air vs. indy, etc, etc. But maybe they did that because things were so new and so much more difficult since your feet weren't attached.
The doody stuffer....I'll say it it you will. _________________ J.L.A. Is Snowboarding
