I took this on a houseboat trip I went on last week at Trinity. It was really grainy because I captured it off my video camera so I thought I would try to make it look like a painting. suggestions welcome I am kind of a n00b when it comes to p shop.

I'm not agreeing on this one... Most people open up PS and apply a simple filter like this one and call it "artsy" so I don,t think it's any different than any first attempt at photoshop (I wasn't any different)

The angle of the picture is cool, it sets it apart......the majority of wakeboard pics (amateur) are taken from the boat pulling the rider, at least the ones I have taken! Looks good.

I said I was the same when I started PS'ing, I just said it wasn't "outstanding" as some others said. I didn't say it was crap either you know Wink

and if you really want to see some of my PS work, you can go on http://wakeforce.deviantart.com They are at the end of my galery because I made them a long time ago. (They are pure PS works, started from nothing). Also, all the pics I take undergo a lot of ps'ing, but it's more "tweaking" than filtering (curves, USM, masks, blurs, noise removal, color tweaking etc.) and it does take quite a while to do.

you're right a lot of people do that but sometimes they call it trippy too, but if he likes thats cool.

It's tough to explain in words, but you basically create separate layers with each photo and then trim away at the backgrounds of your photos with either the eraser tool, the lasso or the magic wand. You'll need to learn about "opacity" levels and layer modes to do a really effective job. You're really just cutting-out the section of the photos that you want to see and then creating a collage. To get the faded-together look, you need to use a feathered edge on your brush or eraser. Then you just arrange them on the page, adjust their color output levels to blend nicely, apply any effects that you want to use, flatten the image (combines all layers into one) - and viola!
It takes a lot of practice to get good at. I've been at it for about 5 years. I took classes in college, but most of what I learned I picked up on my own just messing around or working on ads and posters and stuff for work. It's a very complex and versitile program. I use it for all kinds of stuff other than photo manipulation. Lately, I've been messing around with video animation, using a kind of "flip-book" aproach - small frame by frame adjustments, merged together in final cut pro or after effects. I create the artwork in photoshop and then import it to my editing program, frame by frame. It works great. With enough time and patience you can do some killer stuff.
