|
|
Hi
I have a Spectra Line with 3 existing loop holes for 70ft, 65ft and 60ft. I need to add an extra loop to make the line shorter, is there a specific way of adding extra loops. The exisitng loops are so neat, does anyone know how to add these types of loop into the rope. |

I've had to repair a spectra line that got cut by a prop and I did it by adding two loops. All you need is a sewing machine and the right diameter of heat-shrink tubing which you can get from a hardware store or on the Web. I put the heat-shrink tubing on the line, used heavy thread and a zig-zag stitch to sew the line together, slid the tubing over the stitched area, and heated it to shrink over the line. It looks like it came from the factory that way. Use the existing loops to determine how much line to sew and how much to leave for the loop, and make sure the tubing you use is the right size for twice the diameter of the line.
There are many places to buy the heat-shrink tubing, I included a link to just one of them. I think the diameter you need is 1/2" but check to make sure.

Just tie it off where you want to shorten it. Mark it with tape if you need to. I use a way that doesn't leave a knot and comes right out. I'll try to explain:
Pinch the line together to create a small loop where you want to shorten it at. Pull the pinched line through the small loop to create another loop. Now twist that loop into a figure eight and fold it back upon itself to create a double thick loop. Put it on the tower. This loop will NOT slip out and will NOT leave a knot. Hope this makes sense. |
