Rodney's been skating for much longer than 15 years, he went pro in 1980 or 81. And he lost 1 contest to Per Welinder; still the winningest contest record in skate history. |

He is the shizzle to the 10th power, i wish more of the old skool tricks would come back in style. Especially all of the flatland stuff. _________________ Once youre born you start dying so why not have a little fun. |

I agree that PJ is a great skater, but I don't think Rodney has sketchy style. I mean he's lands tricks sketchy, sure, but who doesn't? Consider the combos he does, they're pretty tough. I'll give him a little leeway on cleanness for the difficulty. |

anyone who can do a handstand to fingerflip to primo to whatever the crap else he wants to do has got to be the best rider ever. mullen made skateboarding what it is today. _________________ Go Big Or Go Home |

I was angry when Mullen was thrashed in the other thread. Now i am extremely angry. Mullen invented almost every trick done today. Everyone should have nothing but respect for him. He is as skilled as anyone. He can flip in and out of any rail, ledge, table on the planet. The man did a 720 double kickflip (double 360 flip) off a curb. THAT is INSAN!!!. _________________ Once youre born you start dying so why not have a little fun. |

I thought the Profile that ON Skateboarding mag did on him last summer was amazing. After you watch it you respect him way more cause it puts his whole career into context.
I'll always say that Rodney Mullen and Danny Way are the best skaters or all time. |

Wow SKATEwakeBOARDER what are you his best friend...people have opinions...mines hes sketchy whopie he invented sht people throw it down better then him anyday of the week...handstand to primo...he needs to move on outa the 80s...I saw him at a Enjoi demo in boston he did spins and hand stands when people like jerry hsu was pullin sht like nollie nosegrinds then you got jose rojo with fs flips over my head...In the skateboard world people like mullen cause hes old and created stuff....but tehre where many people before him if it wernt for them he wouldnt be there...Dont credit just mullen for the progression of the sport look at Tony alva and stacey paralta and stuff dog town and z-boys... |

I never credited just mullen, im just saying give respect where it is do. And I still say he is got as much skill as anybody today. Just one combo that I can think of. Off flat ground, ollie into a manual on a picnic table, backside 360 shuvit into nose manul onto the next picnic table, frontside 360 shuvit into manual to the next table, with a flip off. keep in mind that that is one trick. _________________ Once youre born you start dying so why not have a little fun. |

dude could probably do a handstand with each hand on a football standing the long way. what im saying is hes incredible. what sucks (or is good) for him, is once THPS came out, all the kids saw his skating and couldnt believe their eyes. when everyone is doing handrails LIKE EVERYONE ELSE hes flippin crazy flips in and out of manuals, and grinds, and primos and such.
its no fun watching a video where everyones hitting the SAME handrail at the SAME spot someone else did in another video. but when you watch a mullen part, you are mezmerized. always rewinding and hittin slo-mo. one guy who skates like Mullen today is Nate Sherwood. ive skated with him down in SoCal and that guy can shred. but hes sketchy (YES SKETCHY) like Mullen. you almost have to be sketchy when you pull tricks that crazy. as someone mentioned before, the technicality and difficulty nullify any sketchiness bashing. |

i personally would rather watch people hitting big handrails and sets then mullen stuff. he's good and everything but i like watching big hammers better. |

In my opinion skateboarding is more art than sport. its not about doing the biggest combo, most number of flips, and biggest spin, its about making it look good. rodney is super talented but he has average style and doesnt really get any height on his tricks. I think its more important to have a unique style than it is to have the techest tricks |

The Headless Chicken, my point was that even though other skaters cant match a 720 flip they can do a 3flip that looks so much better |

Colclough999, i agree that skateboarding isnt about seeing who can get their board to spin the fastest but you cant knock rodney for doing his own thing. |

Colclough999, i said if tricks were judged by looks all you would have to learn is a one footed impossible and you wouldnt have to do anything else _________________ i love lamp. Crikey |
