ive been working on about 3 different inverts recently. scarecrow, frontroll, roll to revert. i usually come up short on all of them. yesterday i went boarding with my buddy who got a new x-star. landed the frontroll and the scarecrow...and came close the the r2r. the wake was just so huge that everything was twice as easy. i hardly had to work to land anything. too bad i dont have the cash to get one myself.

Unfortunately you discovered the one secret of wakeboarding...the bigger your wake is, the easier it is to pull off those tricks you can;t land behind your fishing boat. I say unfortunatley, because now you will go spend $$ on more fat sacks and wake enhancing tools, or maybe even spring $$$$$$ for a new 50K boat.

I have a wakesetter lsv (23 ft) and when i rode behind my buddies wakesetter vlx (21 ft) my tricks were so much more consistant, and much bigger. And i landed tricks that i couldn;t behind my boat. And the differece between the two boats is minimal compared to the difference between say a vlx and an i/o. So just keep rippin and savor those times when you got to live the dream behind the perfect wake...

Cap'nPimp, i know exactly how you feel. i ride behind an 18 ft I/O, but occasionally ride behind either an x-star, malibu, or SAN, and it is ridiculous how much easier the tricks are. I guess just be happy that you have a boat, and everything. I just try to hook up with someone that has a nice boat. Neutral

Thats not to say, however, that you cant progress behind a boat that doesnt have a good wake. But it is nice to go out on the 50k boats and enjoy the big ones while you can.

The bigger wake is just giving you more time, it did nothing to improve your technique.

IMO- it's better to learn proper technique than to become a huck and luck rider (not sayn that is you, jst making a statement).
You will thank yourself in the long run, specially if the wake you ride behind most of the time is on the smaller side.

I actually like riding on a smaller wake some times just so I can get back to the basics and force myself to pound up and through the entire wake.

Don't get me wrong I like the BIG wake but it's not always the best for learning new tricks as most people have a tendency to leave earlier the bigger the wake gets and we all know that's NOT good!

Don't be fooled and think a biger wake makes you a better rider. it's all technique-IMO.

that is true about a bigger wake just gives you more time. but in my case i think thats all i need cause i dont think technique is my problem. i am a 200 lb. rider behind an 88 supra comp with a TINY wake. making it a little difficult to land inverts and raley based tricks. however, i think in a way, riding behind a crappy boat has helped me with my technique. now when i ride behind a nice boat, all the tricks i come up short on behind my boat, are made twice as easy. now all i need is the 50k+ to buy a decent boat.

Cap'nPimp,
Throw a fat sack or some big rubber-maid containers with some water in the back. I used to ride behind a supra comp of the same vintage, and the wake was great. Even un-weighted, the trick wake was big with a nice peak to it compared to a lot of comp boats. Does your boat have the wake plate on the back? maybe some adjustment of that would help??? I don't know... (maybe that's not really what its for...) just a suggestion...

yes, i have the wake plate, but i dont think its adjustable. i have around 350 lbs. in the back and usually ride with about 4 other people so i have it pretty full. i can get it bigger then that though if i put everything i have in it, but that burns gas like none other. and i dont really want to spend $30 every day to fill it up. and no the wake is not even close to big or have a nice peak if it is not weighted. its meant to be a world class water ski boat.

Cap'nPimp,
On the supra comp ts6m that I used to ski behind, it was adjusted with the turn of a few bolts... I've skied/boarded behind a '89, and a 92. I know they are supposed to be world class water ski, but it's also 16 yrs old... Ever tried to ski behind an old nautique??? The wake was like a brick wall! Plus, they are also designed to give no wake at 36mph, not 22mph. At that speed, the trick wake should be nice!
Not tryin to argue... I'd love a new wakeboard boat too... I know there is no compairison (I currently have a '94 nautique), but you should still have no probs doing basic inverts behind your boat - even unweighted and without a tower.
Keep practising, and it will be a cinch next time you are out with the big wake.

i can do basic inverts. i mean, the wake isnt horrible with some weight, im just sayin that a better boat makes a pretty big difference. its alot more fun and esier to learn tricks that require a little more air. one end end of the wake plate is bolted to the boat while the other end is held by two adjustable rods. i dont think it can be adjusted because the end is bolted to the boat. maybe im wrong though.
