|
|
First off hello all this is my first post and am sure glad I found this site, so much info here.
Ok I am an avid snowboarder but since I transferred colleges I am now in a warmer climate and went to the lake with my girlfriends brother which is an avid wakeboarder/wakeskater and I tried and after about an hour I got the hang of getting up and moving around on his board.
Now my question is I am 5'11" and weigh around 205, what board would be best for a HUGE beginner?
I have been looking at some nice hyperlites but almost got a nice parks but I dont know what size I need, and I think a parks is 2 hardcore for a beginner so this is where I need your expert advice?
What size and a decent to novice board would you recommend?
Also is there any place you peeps know where I can sell my snowboard to help fund my new addiction?
If anyone is intrested in my snowboard it is a 2001 libtech 163 Pacifier hardcarving freestyle with Rossi boots and bindings...
Once agian hello to all |

Theres plenty of beginner boards from plenty of different brands. Length-wise you could probably ride anything from a 136 and up. A parks board might be a bit too advanced for someone who had wakeboarded only once or a few times. But if you were to get one I'd go with the 138 I think it is. And if you want to sell your snowboard put it in the Classified section or ebay. _________________ www.Tigeowners.com

Try out the Board Finder at http://www.boardstop.com/. It will recommend boards based on your height/weight/skill level/riding style....
Also, the Parks is probably more advanced then you need. And based on your height and weight I'd recommend something in the 139-145 cm range. _________________ Pat McCarthy |

even though your not advanced right now, you do have a snowboarding background so you could catch on pretty quick. So i wouldnt buy a full out begginner board , i would go with an intermediate board that you can keep and progress with i would recommend a liquid force trip 138. just my .02

ok scooter thanx, I will look into that board.
What does everyone here ride?
Is it true hyperlite is the best and that is the name you want on your tower?
That is just what my friend said, he just got a new boat, sold his moomba and got a supra ssv, man that boat is AWESOME, but I cant see spending 50K on a wakeboat...
But anyway |

Hey mksucum,
Your friend must be a lucky guy....
Hyperlite is prolly the largest company in gross sales, as far as being the best, that discussion will rage on for your lifetime...
The best board is the one YOU like...

Hey mksucum,
I forgot to ask, is there a shop that demos or do you have the opportunity to demo either of the two boards you're looking at? I think others are correct in their assessment about NOT buying a beginner board - you'll outgrow it quite quickly - the trip or fluid will take you to the next level (and prolly the one beyond that)
Good luck!
Oh yeah, welcome to the group - you'll find ALOT of very skilled folks here who have opinions (Ha!) and great advice - check out all the video clips, use the search function when you can and have fun...

I ride the Hyperlite Fluid 137 with a set of Hyperlite Spin bindings. I think it's a good board for a begginer but still good enough to learn a few intermediate tricks on. Good luck shopping. _________________ I wish my grass was emo; then it would cut itself |

luonthesnake, that board is probably too big for you. Your weight also plays a factor, but you should probably be riding something like a 133-137 cm board.
Try out the Board Finder at http://www.boardstop.com/ . It will recommend boards for you based on your height, weight, and skill level. _________________ Pat McCarthy |

hey mksucum, I ride a parks 138 biolite and i love it. I didnt learn on this board though. The trip is a nice board and so is the fluid i say the same as wes...demo if you can. When asking which board company is the best....it all depends. hyperlite is the most promoted and most known, but that doesnt make it the best. there really is no best brand. REMEMBER never say which brand you think is the best because people actually will rage on you |

howdy all,
Totally newbe here. I'm on a hyperlite vero (143) with XL bindings. I'm starting to wish i bought the fluid 137 board. I feel pretty "skatey" but i'm so new I figure its just me. oh yeah, i'm 5'11 and 185lb....any suggestions? Either way my budget is spent so i'm stuck with my board.
Also, i'm behind a bayliner with no tower. I'm catching 2-3 ft of air on a good day at the moment. I'm planning on trying 180's next but wondering if they can be done without completing a w2w. I can't seem to make it to the other side on my wake, i go up, then straight down fast. I'm hoping a tower will help out on this (but judging by the price of metal at the moment this might take a while). _________________ Drive it like you stole it. |

| i think maybe the 137 might have made a difference but if your still growing then the 143 was a good choice. yes 180's can be done without clearing the wake. 180's can be done from an ollie. learn them on the surface and ollie 180's before taking them to jumps i think you will find it alot easier that way. im also thinking the tower will make a difference when it comes to air. i find that when i went without and tower and then got a boat with a tower the tower helped alot. good luck |
