I'm looking at buying a '93 Nautique Excel. I believe it's the same as their barefoot boat but with a smaller engine.
The seller is a bank repo place so I can't test drive it but it's a really good deal. However, I don't know what kind of wake it will put out. I'm only going to use it for wakeboarding as I have another boat to goof off with (an I/O that I bought when I first got into boarding and it's incredibly lousy for boarding - as you guys know)
The hull is not flat bottom like many ski boats so I'm worried the wake won't match other ski boats. It has a normal deadrise in the front and a slight deadrise in the back.
Has anyone boarded behind one and how was the wake. I got plenty of weight for it.
Thanks |

I've heard good things about the excel. When we were looking for a boat a couple months ago we tried like crazy to find one but there just weren't any within 1000 miles up for sale. You can't find another v-drive for the price you can get one of those at. How much are they selling it for?
You might want to be really careful when inspecting it. If the person got the boat repo'd, they obviously didn't have enough money to take care of it, if it had any problems. I've heard it's important to get a compression test done on the motor before you buy to make sure it's performing alright. I don't know if this is possible for you. |

thanks for the input.
Was the barefoot a nautique a v-drive or a d-drive? I think I may be confused which is which. This one is a 20' V-drive.
Re: compression check and ect. They have a pool that you can put it and run it and do all the tests, you just can't put it all the way in and run it around. |

| dammit, you're in Dallas too. I just noticed that. We seriously looked everywhere to find one of those excels. Settled on a Sport Nautique. You might want to get a compression test done and snag that thing quick. We had 2 boats bought out from underneath us because we took a week between inspecting and test driving. |

I'm actually in Houston...
I use to live in the Big D and wish I still did and I still boat in Dallas - actually Lake Texoma.
I'll make a deal with you. I'll get the Excel and if it lives up to it, you're more than welcome to join me anytime. I get tired of my brother driving me anyhow. If it sucks, I'm going to invite myself onto your rig when ever I see fit.
Thanks alot, I'll let you know what I end up doing.
FYI, the boat is from Austin, so no salt water. |
