Anyone used the new monster tower racks? I hate them. They are supposed to fit any tower. I put them up top on my tower and then I put them on real tight! Guess what? they rotated down and almost knocked somone out since my boards almost him them in the head. Anyone have any ideas? I put some rubber on the contact surfaces and they still will move. Really pisses me off when I paid this much for something, and they suck!

Mine work fine.
Which part is rotating? The cuff that clamps to the tower? Or the rack that clamps to the cuff?

Go easy there partner, I know you're not happy right now but I assure you, the Monster racks don't suck. I've had a wakeboard rack and a ski rack on my tower for some time now, and haven't encountered the problem you've described. Quite the contrary, my racks have been rock solid. I would however like to know a couple things to help everyone better diagnose your issue.
1 - What diameter tower do you have the rack(s) installed on, and are you sure you have the correct sized spacers in the clamps?
2 - Did you clean the mating surfaces on the clamp(s), the spacers, and the tower tubing where the racks were installed, with something like denatured alcohol before installation? This step would remove any soap, wax, or other residue that might contribute to the clamp slippage you mention.
3 - Answer the previous question asked about which part of the clamp is giving you the problem.
4 - Have you contacted the Monster support staff to see what they'd suggest? My past experiences with them have been excellent, and I'm sure they'd be happy to help.
For everyone's benefit on this site though, please go slow in bashing any company's products until you've exhausted all your support opportunities. Your issue may be very simply resolved by the Monster staff, and they should be given the opportunity to help before you unload on them publically.

Could not agree more! Well stated.
There is no questiont that Bill will walk you thru it until you are completely satisfied. You simply will find NOBODY better than the guys at Monster Tower to work with. They don't need negative publicity - and as stated, stay cool before bashing and give the vendor a chance to work it out.
I have had my Monster on going into year two with over 150 hours pulling. Not a single squawk.
If their stuff 'sucked' as you said, you would see many more posts everywhere about it. I can't think of a single major negative I've seen on any of the forums around.
My 2 cents worth

how do you even know that YOU didnt install it wrong. you can not go mouthing off like that publicly, especially on a forum where anyone in the world can see it, dissing a product that someone makes a living off of selling when nothing may even be wrong with it. lets say it wasnt defective, and it was just you, i really doubt you are going to take the time to come back onto these boards and announce that you screwed up, and it wasnt monster tower's fault. watch what you say...

1) we live in a free country, so that means I can state anything I wish.
2) I would think something qualifies as sucking if it almost kills someone.
3) I mounted them exactly how the directions state
4) The part that is sliding is both the plastic on the tube, and the clamp on the plastic
5) I believe I used the correct plastic part, it fits snug on the tubing.
6) I have a inch and seven/eighths diameter tube
7) I have sent an email to the person I bought them from, and another one to monster
To the people that have had good luck with them, where do you have them mounted, Like where on your tower. I mounted mine on top. I noticed in there ad, they mount them on the side
9) Any other ideas?
10) As for the "sucking" statement, I was extremely mad due to the fact that what almost happened. The racks look very good, and they also look very good on my boat. I've heard great things about them, I'm just not happy with my set, maybe I have a lemon, or maybe I did something wrong, I just don't know what, since I followed the directions exaxtly. I would think that I have a bad set, since they still rotate even with a rubber strip on the clamping surface.

you mounted it horizontally didn't you?
From the sounds of it, i'd say you mounted it on a horizontal tube, it should only be mounted vertically, therefore you haven't used the instructions.
I have two of the racks and can honestly say not one problem has been encountered with them.
The support available with them (i.e Monster Tower and their dealer network) is second to none!
Lets quit ranting and see what Monster have to say on it, I am sure they will solve the problem for you or offer alternatives.

Domslude, you mentioned "they rotated down" making me think they are mounted on a horizontal tube, that's not safe. They should only be used on a vertical tube where they hold great.
If you definately want them on the top there are two options. One is to drill through the back collar and install a drive pin or screw to hold them on a horizontal tube. Give me a call if you want me to walk you through it and I can get you the stainless drive pins for it as well.
The second is return them for a full refund and get a rack with the "serrated style clamp" as shown below. These are much more aggressive clamps which dig into the metal deep enough to hold on a horizontal surface. I'm not crazy about accessories that damage the tower but for horizontal mounts it's the best way to go. You may also want to check factory tower options to see if there was one.

Just got off the phone with bill, and He informed me that you are correct that your not supposed to mount on a horizontal bar. They are in the process of changing the instructions so it says very specifically NOT to mount that way. I"m gonnna go try and mount them on the vertical.
Customer service A+++++++++++
Reponse Time A++++++++++
Again, sorry I came off the wrong way. They are a Great company, and I like that. I think I might just go buy a monster tower;)

Good call on correcting your statements. I understand your earlier frustrations however because when you spend a lot of money on something it can be frustrating if it does not work as you expected. It is great however to see that you got the problem fixed with Monster's help and that you posted that you were pleased with their customer service.

Glad everything worked out well for you. I thought it would in the end. And as far as your comment about buying a MonsterTower, you wouldn't regret that purchase either. I've had one on my boat now for a while and am very pleased with it's performance.
