A pic of my old rusty motor. It's shot and I'm looking for a new long block.[/img]

Wow, success in posting a picture.
This motor is a 351W in an 85 SN 2001. I don't know what rotation the motor is. I can say this though, the crankshaft pulley rotates counter clockwise/to the left.
Is this considered standard rotation? I thought that Nautiques were all reverse rotation.
Thanks,
John

If it rotates counter clock ise it is reverse rotation. All american car engines rotate clockwise.

Just by the look of the fins on the alternator, my guess would be clockwise as viewed from the front. Don't take that as gospel though.

Maybe the alternator is wrong then because all the belts move to the left/counter clockwise. And when you look at the bottom crank shaft pulley it also rotates counter clockwise.
As vette74 said, I think it is probably a reverse rotation.
In any case, I've priced a few rebuilt long blocks out and a local rebuilder (Santa Ana, CA) claims he has availability on a reverse rotation marine 351 W long block for $1800 (no core exchange). I'm thinking about going this route so I don't have shipping and core exchanges to deal with. He carries a 1 yr unlimited hour warranty.
