|
|
I just got a 77 Correct Craft Skier. The original graphics on the side of the boat are pretty faded and crappy looking. I was wondering if anyone knew if they were actually decals or painted on. I can feel the edge of them, but I can't seem to get an edge started. They look like they were painted on. Is my only option to sand the entire hull to get them off.
Thanks,
B |

They are most likely a decal, but I don't know that for sure.
I stripped the decals off my MC by using a razor blade as a scraper and then peeling off pieces. If you do this process try and pull the decal at a really sharp angle (fold it back on itself as you peel) this gave me larger pieces and if you peel the decal off it takes the glue with it VS scrapping which left the glue residue on the hull that had to be scrubbed off.
If you are replacing them with the same decals then just lay them on but if you are updating to a newer or different decal package then you will have to work the finish. I used Meguires color restorer (a light rubbing compound) then polish, then wax. I did use some 1500 and 1200 grit paper for wet sanding of some scratches in the gel coat. Lots of hours but looks great in the end.
Good luck! _________________ SWEET! |

try spraying on some sticker off from any local wal-mart, it just sprays on let it sit for a sec, and then try, if that dosent work, it is painted on.... _________________ If at first you dont succeed, you oviously wasnt ment to do it!!

I thought they were decals too, but I wasn't able to get them even with a razor. I could barely scratch through it, but it seems to get going all the way through the top clear coat. Weould it be possible for them to of cleared over the decals?
Thanks,

| What's weird is that it looks like a previous owner tried to repaint the blue in the decals. They did not stay in the lines very well. I might be able to buff the over paint off, but I would rather be able to take off the whole decal. |

| If it is a decal the best way to get them off is by using a heat gun (a blow dryer will work too). Then just heat them up and peel them off, be careful if you use a razor blade so you don't stratch the paint up. Then use something to get the residue off, we had our old boat buffed after we took the graphics off. Good luck! |

| I think I figured the graphics out. I took some Goof-Off I had and went to town on a small spot. It started to rub away and behind it is very bright white. Should I worry about rubbing through the clear or gel coat? |

X2Hoss,
Did you worry about sanding too far and getting into the gel coat when you were sanding the graphics. I would think that you would need to reclear the entire surface if you are sanding through any coats.
Thanks,

If they are decals....use the heat gun to warm them up (like a few have mention) then gradually peel them off. Work in small section using heat and removing. |
