Posted: May 07, 2004 6:10 pm Post subject: How to tie rope to tower |
|
|
I am going by the theory that the only dumb question is the one not asked so:
Have a new MC with tower. Don't know how to fasten tow-rope to the white nylon "pully" on top of the tower. Realized this today when we took it out for its first pull. The tow-rope has a loop built into the end. Seemed that it would fly off when released if I just threw the loop over the pully (what do you call that thing anyway?) so I pulled the rope through the loop to make a loop that tightens when pulled. It stayed on just fine but seems to me that it must be off to one side just by the way the knot sits. Is there another way to do this? Too new at this to know what might matter and what might not. |

WT that is wrong the correct method is what WD did push the rope through the loop to make a self tightning "noose" that is what ropse were intended for _________________ They know what is what but they dono what is what they just strut. |

I have been doing "slip knot" style on ropes that get used for 6 hours/day straight for 5 years and they dont break at the tow point.... _________________ They know what is what but they dono what is what they just strut. |

The Headless Chicken,
If you mean the double loop method, then yes I do it all the time. _________________ I Love The Smell of Butta In The Morning |

Unfortunately, my ropes don't get used quite this much, but I've still got one of the ropes that came with the boat when my dad bought it in 1989...yes it's 15 years old. It's mostly used for tubes. I do the "slip knot" and it's never broken. |

For what it's worth:
A college friend of mine was a nationaly ranked slalom skier in the late '90's as well as spending 3 summers on a waterski trick team. He skied behind my boat on several occaisions and always used the "slip knot" method.
I don't see any reason why the other method won't work, but I'm gonna stick with the one that's worked for me and everyone else I know. |

Quick question...
If the knob on the tower is too big to double loop or slipknot, can you just put the loop on the tower (without using the above methods) or will the rope be damaged ? _________________ I Love The Smell of Butta In The Morning |

| Some people do slip knot others do double loop. You can really do either. I use double loop because whether or not it makes a difference the stress from the pull is spread out over the rope evenly rather than directed at one part. I'm sure the rope can handle it but why subject it to that stress if theres just an easy way that works just as well? |

I tried the slip knot and it seems to be wrecking the plastic length markers, guess I should have stated that earlier _________________ I Love The Smell of Butta In The Morning |

Water Skiers use the slip knot. After a pass through the course you can quickly shorten the rope. Its fast, easy and has worked for decades. _________________ I hope the weather is calm as you sail up your heavenly stream |
