|
|
Hey Guys and Gals,
I just got a fake a lake for my inboard ski boat and had a couple of questions about it...
I hooked it up and don't know how hard I should turn on the water?? Do I want it full blast so it's spewing out the side of the fake a lake??
When the boat runs (on the fake a lake) it kind of surges and water spits out the back of the boat with each surge... is this the way it's supposed to run or am I doing something wrong??
Later

yes you want the water on all the way, and it is normal for the water to "surge" out of the exhaust. If you are unsure, look at the strainer that is inline with the water intake hose. as long as the strainer is full of water while the engine is running, your OK. _________________ Does this rag smell like chloroform?

i work at a marina where the owner works on all kinds of inboard wake boats and stuff
we were working on a 02 sport nautique the other day and to hook water up to it he just put a hose into the engine, there was a valve for the hose to hook right in, and then a spicket handle to open the valve for the water from the hose to go right into the engine
i dont know if ALL inboard engines are like that , but it was SUPER simple, and you wouldnt need anything but a hose..... _________________ its not who you ride for, its how you ride-- as long as you ride good infront of girls |

My boat has a fitting in line with the water intake that you can hook a hose up to. It does make it easy to flush the engine and run it before you put it in the water. The only problem is that you have to remember to open the valve back up once you put the boat in the water.
Don't ask how I know that..........
And when you do have the hose hooked up run the water FULL BLAST!! Open the valve all the way. Even with the hose valve open all the way and the water at it's highest pressure, if I rev the engine on my boat a little (up to like 1500 rpms) it will start to suck the hose flat. And I don't exactly have weak water pressure at my house. _________________ How do you apologize to a friend for something like that? Flowers would not be enough. |

| The instructions with my flush kit say to turn the water to 1/3 pressure. I think if you crank it you could damage your impeller. |

| you can't damage the impeller with too much water, only a lack of water, you are supposed to run the water fully |

Yeah, after having taken my water pump apart to replace the impeller a few times, I have a hard time seeing how the max water pressure from your hose could really do any damage. If you have an extra set of hands, you could have one person stand by the water faucet, and one person run the boat. If the hose starts to get sucked flat, have the person at the faucet open the valve more. I'd bet money you're going to want the faucet all the way open though. _________________ How do you apologize to a friend for something like that? Flowers would not be enough. |

If you get tired of messing with the Fake A Lake you could install a flush kit in line. This one doesn't require any extra valves to remember to switch back and forth. I always turn the hose on full blast.

| The only reason I would recommend the fake a lake over the flush kit is because it allows your water pump to continue to work properly. When you start the engine and use a flush kit the pump just runs and pulls nothing through because you are bypassing it and from what I hear this can significantly shorten the life of the water pump. |

umm, goodricht, that's wrong
the flush kit (flushpro) goes before the raw water pump inline with the raw water hose. When the hose is hooked up and turned on, a one-way check valve on one side of the flush adaptor closes and the part of the system between the raw water pump and this now closed check valve is pressurized, when the engine is started the raw water pump sucks the water from this pressurized circuit just as it would the lake or bay or whatever, same as a fake a lake |
