Jake your video's have come along very well I like your flow so much better than when you started posting keep up the good work.
Those bindings are pimp, not since the Hyperlite storm trooper boots has their look made me want to buy them and seeing that the Gator Bindings are hard to get even for us I think I might have to rock those on my GB caddy this year or maybe the OG hell who am i kidding I'll wear to work................................j/k

They should be in shops in a couple of weeks according to my local shop owner.
I might have to try them when they get in. Too bad I didn't like the Transit, the footbed was killer but the rest of the binding didn't suit my style.
To me it looked like Watson was having to adjust to a rampier wake. That was a VLX in the vid right? He has a SAN (I think he still does) and his tricks are taken straight up. It actually reminded me of the trouble I have when I ride a rampier wake....well except for the fact that I aint no Shawn Watson!
I love his style for sure. _________________ Join the Surfrider Foundation at www.surfrider.org |

better camera
I feel ready to upgrade

Jakeman, how much are you willing to spend? i use a canon xl-1. it will run you $5K-$6K. you might want to look into a canon gl-2 or sony vx-2100. both are great cameras and will be half the price. _________________ www.TheLiquidPlayground.com

no
I have been researching the XL 1 and will probably buy it
early next week.
I might be doing an important shoot w/ a certain female rider.
so I want the best.
$2000 is chump-change for the difference in quality
just wanted to make sure the xl 1 was the best camera pound-4-pound _________________ www.420EMPIRE.com |

alright well if you want a great quality camera the xl-1 will do more than everything that you will ever want it to, so go with that camera...but just know that you are wasting your money if you are just going to be putting your video on the web because you WONT see a difference between a vx-2100/gl-2 and the xl-1. trust me, ive compared them side by side.
either way its your money, so spend it how you'd like. just remember the xl-1 is a more or less a professional grade camera and needs to be treated carefully. _________________ www.TheLiquidPlayground.com

that being said, i have the camera because i am a film major and know how to use it to its fullest potential. i also have a gl-1, and i have used a gl-2 and vx-2000 enough to know that you would honestly be better off if you purchase one of these cameras. im not saying that the xl-1 is too much for you or that you arent good enough for it, but that the quality is definitely still very good with the smaller cameras and it is much easier to hand hold them for long periods of time.
if you only plan on putting your videos on the web, you wont see a difference in quality. _________________ www.TheLiquidPlayground.com

I thought you were going to be an attorney?
Are you a double major?
why do U assume my videos are for the internet only?
If you can use it to it's fullest potential, where is the proof?
why buy the gl then down the road want the xl ?
what is the difference IYO between the xl1 xl1-s?
the cool thing is I am not paying for it. My investor is taking care of it. _________________ www.420EMPIRE.com

Scott,
I think anyone would treat a $5K piece of electronic equipment carefully!
don't you?
Especially someone who has a plethora of digital equipment already.
The specs on the cameras as far as weight is not that much of a concern considering the weight difference is not THAT dramatic.
(well, it shouldnt be for a man who goes to the gym)
canon XL-1 3lbs 11 oz (6 lbs fully loaded)
canon GL2 2lbs 8 oz
Sony VX2100 3lbs 6oz
yes, after a while carrying around 3-6 pounds on your shoulder does get heavy
but that is the price you pay if you want 'the shot'
Poor Barry Vaught *awesome photographer by the way* was lugging around a bag that looked like it was about 20 lbs and the lens on his camera made it look so front heavy and cumbersome, but he gets the definitive shots that set him apart from pictures in the media gallery.
This camera will be used for much more than putting videos on the web.. but thanks for your concern..even so, I have seen footage from all three of the cameras you referred to and just by watching playbacks of two of them, there was definately a difference in quality in compared to what is being used now and also between the 3 mentioned.
I am somewhat confused by your statement about being a film major though, I was certain that last year when I came on to this board, you told me you were majoring in law..are you a double major? I distinctly remember another gentlemen commenting on how he and you would be law partners after you complete your education at UC Berkeley ? Just wondering!
Also, since you know how to use the camera to its fullest potential, being a film student, I was wondering if you had any links to anything besides your wakeboarding footage in wakepics? I figure a budding film major such as yourself would have loads of short films and would have set up a site to display your 'work'.
If so, I would love to view something other than your wakeboarding footage, some work you have done with your xl-1.
***Just noticed Jake posted from a different pc location ..guess we were BOTH wondering about the law gimmick****
and please don't take this post the wrong way..in your own words "i dont have a bad attitude, but i do have an opinion. I like to give my opinion on certain topics" |

when did i ever assume anything, hence the word if.
the proof is at home where most of my video is. like i have said before i dont have much time to edit video here at school.
| Jakeman wrote: | what is the weight difference in the gl compaired to the xl ?

your wife posted numbers, but they are also deceiving because a lot of the weight is in the lense which is farther away from you making the camera feel heaver than it really is if you are only holding it with one hand.
you can buy whichever camera you want, you dont have to start with the less expensive one.

| i dont know if this link is going to work, so you might have to register. its free, and there is more digital video information than anyone can ever want. http://www.dv.com/reviews/reviews_item.jhtml?category=Cameras&LookupId=/xml/review/johnson_xl1_1201
| wakejunkeygirl wrote: | | The specs on the cameras as far as weight is not that much of a concern considering the weight difference is not THAT dramatic. |
what do you consider to be a dramtic weight difference? remember that unless you pay for an additional shoulder mount, you have to hand hold the camera.
| wakejunkeygirl wrote: | | even so, I have seen footage from all three of the cameras you referred to and just by watching playbacks of two of them, there was definately a difference in quality in compared to what is being used now and also between the 3 mentioned |
so which cameras did you watch footage from?

i never have ever mentioned even wanting to go to law school. perhaps this other "gentlemen" was joking?

nope, none of my stuff is online, like i said its at home. i have no reason to put it online since i made it for school and not to post links on message boards...
whew...i think i got everything haha. _________________ www.TheLiquidPlayground.com

Not saying you need it to 'post links on message boards' just figured a film major would have SOME type of video portfolio just in case a sudden opportunity arrises where you may need some footage besides that of wakeboarding. something you could 'zip' to someone who was interested in working with you..
...and don't worry, we will treat the camera very 'carefully' _________________ www.420EMPIRE.com 'Whatever you want it to be'

Damn, don't ya'll think you're being hard on the guy? I mean, you asked for opinions, he gave it, and then ya'll start tag teaming the guy. Sounds like the 420 Empire needs to observe 420 more often. In with the good, out with the bad. It's all circular...
Anyway, I really liked the video. Thanks for posting it. You get used to seeing these guys in regular videos where they never crash. I think it's good to see them crash during a run. It makes them seem more human. |

scotta likes to battle. it's in his profile. We try to make it good fun but sometimes we get out of hand. He has a lot of knowledge about photography. I enjoy learning new stuff.
thanks for the props on the video.
Wednesday I went riding w/ Shawn and he gave me some good pointers on wiping out. Notice when he bails how smooth his crashes are.

wakejunkeygirl, i have copies of pretty much everything ive done on mini dv (with some on a hard drive), so if i need to send a sample of my work to someone i will send it in mini dv format (unless they specify otherwise). i absolutely HATE putting video online because quality just goes to s hit.
have fun w/ your camera. _________________ www.TheLiquidPlayground.com

Sorry, Jake. My bad. I never read his profile, so I didn't know. From a casual observer it looked different. You know how the internet is.
Good choice on the song, too. Paint It Black is one of my favorites. Always makes me think of Tour of Duty, though.
And since now I've seen Scott's profile, I've got to comment on it. Scott, that is the best profile pic I've ever seen that didn't have some fine ass ho in it. Seriously, that should be in a magazine ad or something. It looks great. |

fuel, you should be thanking Mike Isler and Garrett Cortese for those pics because they took them. speaking of which, i need to edit that pic and throw them some props for it...both Mike and Garrett do some pretty awesome work.
and that pic actually was in wbm (minus the close up of mike schwenne). i believe it came out last summer/early fall _________________ www.TheLiquidPlayground.com

not to be harsh or anything, wouldnt you want to learn a little more about video editing and advance your skills before upgrading camera. Video is cool for a weblink, but hardly anything someone would want to purchase.
Dont mean any offense, but as another beginner in the DV editing, id think ud like to learn more of your craft before u got top of the line gear. |

Pimpin D--Why wait, then you just have to upgrade later? might as well be prepared and learn the actual equipment you will be using.
Editing skills will definately be fine tuned in class.... |
