Need advice on binding lubricant. Just got some exo suction bindings and don't want to use washing up liquid on them. What do you suggest to use and how do you guys apply it - straight from the bottle or use a spray can? can you water down the specific binding lubricants?

thanks

Soap will eat your bindings. Buy some newt juice. They have a variety of sizes to choose from and washes out when in water very easy, unlike soap.

Personally, I use Moose Juice. It is a spray and disapates with just a couple of wiggles. Soap does not disapate as quickly and if not fully rinsed out of the neoprene, can cause a delamination problem. Of course, soap is load cheaper and if you dilute it enough so it barely works, can be used a long time without damaging the binding. I just don't like the feel of soap making the interior of the binding slick while I ride.

Most binding lubes are similar in formulation and function. My choice is becuase I am cheap and use less. Experiment and see what you like.

Use binding lube (newt juice, duck butter, lava etc.), do not use traditional dish soap, the petroleum products will eat your bindings. You can use a vegetable based soap though (bio-degradable too), like seventh generation.

I like duck butter, I bit the bullet and bought the big
gallon jug (lot cheaper on a per time usage). I just squirt a little in each binding and rub it around. Once your in the water you won't notice the lube. I've tried the soap and don't like sliding around my bindings the first time up.

Shaving cream.. Barbasol- only $1 a can, made to dissolve washes away quickly and lasts a long time, formulated not to be harsh like dishwashing soaps.

I don't reccomend the gel type, most of the time they have extra dyes that might stain the interior of the boat if left sitting for really long periods.

I third it, shaving cream is great, but whenever I need to shave I have to make a trip to the boat in the back yard. Extra cans are good.

i also put my vote toward shaving cream..the old style foam is great....

BTW most people dont keep there bindings long enough to have the rubber eat away..it would take a few years to do that if in fact it did it at all...

ive used diluted dawn dish soap as well when i was out of cream...just put a little in a small spray bottle and mix it with water and your golden... Laughing

Make a 10% solution of glycerin/glycerol in water. You can get glycerin/glycerol at the drug stor in the first aid section. It's really cheap, and I've been told that it's the same thing a lot of binding lubes are made out of.

I've bought and mixed some, but haven't had the chance to use it yet. It does seem to have the right consistency, though.

ya i discovered a way to make your expensive binding lube last 4 times longer for 2 dollas. YOU got to buy the GEL shaving cream and mix it with the lube. USE only a little and shake it will expand and OPEN VERY CAREFULLY because gas builds up and ull get the stuff all over you. DO its worth it.

Shaving cream is the way to go. My wife and kids still use it on their bindings. I have the 2004 Exo Suctions ...no lube required, heavenly Mr. Green

My Dad used to competitively ski. He's always used dish soap and never had any of these "delaminiating" or "eating away" problems despite constant use of his skis. I imagine if you put soap on some bindings and then without putting them in the water you let them sit in the sun maybe then you'd have a problem. I say just save your money and get the soap. Shaving cream works too though.

Boarder4Life3780, LOL are you serious?! You can't be serious! My wife uses that stuff on food and I can't imagine it would come off easy. But, stranger things have happened. Smile I use Suave( diluted big time ) in an old Moose Juice bottle. Slick, and gives your feet that fresh strawberry scent Laughing

Liquid hand soap that you can buy at $1 store. 1 bottle will probably last you a season.

I use baby shampoo, its biodegradable and won't eat at your bindings. Other than that, everything these guys said is good, but I'd be hesitant on dishwasher soap.

What about generic KY Jelly? It is made to be biodegradeable and water soluable. Just a thought, havent tried it yet. I have also used sunscreen, not the waterproof kind.
