Don't get out of the game, bro! Your situation should just give you more incentive to get a good job (go to college first) and buy your own stuff. There's nothing wrong with moochin' pulls!

Pick up skateboarding. Can't go wrong with the sport that sprouted 99% of boardsports today.

Find some friends to ride with and help them with gas, boat upkeep, etc.-sort of let them know your dilemma and that you will do your part to help them for a pull. Or, get a part-time job and buy yourself an old runabout for about $2k.

Many riders (including myself) don't have a boat to call their own. Start making some friends. If you truly love the sport, don't sell your stuff. Things always have a funny way of working themselves out...

Sort of, but not really. Surfing begot skateboarding. Skateboarding is the standard by which boardsports are measured, including surfing.

The names of many of the tricks originated in skateboarding. Even surfers now are doing shuvits, indy/mute/lien/stalefish airs, etc. Surfing is the definitive grandfather of all boardsports, but the standard by which they're measured these days is skateboarding.

jester i agree with you that all boardsports are measured by skateboarding but surfing has spawned all the major boardsports. skateboarding was invented when the surf was flat. wakeboarding by land locked surfers(also surfboards were ridden behind the boat long before the traditional wakeboard was made). and if i'm not mistaken sonowboarding was invented by a surfer name burton(don't know this for sure).

There are plenty of wakeboarders in Virginia, many who post on these very message boards. Just check out the member list for riders and PM people, or make a post when you'd like to ride. As long as you're a nice addition to the boat (i.e. pay for gas, help with clean up, share the riding time), you shouldn't have a problem getting pulls.

We definetly owe surfing for the 'ride' aspect of boardsports, and it did come first, but I believe skateboarding really introduced the 'trick' aspect, and we owe as much or more to that sport.

all the boardsports share one common root...Surfing. But, all board sports "share" different aspects with eachother which make them what they are today. Surfing did come first, then skateboarding. Ancient Hawaiian Kings were surfing when the Spainish expeditions landed on the islands. If that is'nt a long history, I dont know what is? I know wakeboarding is definately in it's infancy though....who knows where it'll be in 10-20 years? Hopefully, we will still have non-toxic water.. Rolling Eyes

it's gonna be crazy what people are doing on wakeboards in 20 years. just like skateboarding starting on clay wheels and oak. i wonder if wakeboarding will do the same thing with boards and wakes.

No disrespect intended, but I think wakeskating is the way of the future. I mean, you can only take flip/spin combos so far, once the board can come away from you there's so much more you can do.

This is true even for snowboarders, they've reached a plateau in my opinion. They've done every grab, every flip, every rotation, now what can they do? Try it off big drops, that's about it. Skateboarding not only has a better variety, but the tricks keep comin'.

jester no one is even utilizing the most important aspect or wakeboarding, the rope. rewind spins are the way of the future and i'm not talking about just rewinding a off axis spin (ie 540 rewind where it looks like a elephant landing). i'm talking about doing stuff like rewinding into a 3. i know that these are extremly hard but in twenty years who knows. collin wright was doing some rewind blind 180's in liek 99 (my house video). i agree tha wakeskating will progress a lot but because of the nature of it it will always be limited to by what is done in skateboarding.

You got it bud...in good ole VT. I believe the story goes that Burton was a surfer (from NY I believe) sent to boarding school. Long story short, he began hiking Stratton at night perfecting his "toy." Who knew that "toy" would bring him so far and lead us to the water with a similar "toy."
