Well my project has pretty much wrapped up, I baught some cans and mounts from Raul, then i got some Kicker k65 speakers for them, then my friend powdercoated em for me.

total
Canisters $138.00 shipped
Speakers $80.00 shipped
Powdercoating $30

grand total of $248.

Pretty good deal for a nice set up, compared to Boss' B-50 for $574.99 or skylons defcon I for $449.99

Cant wait to put em up on the boat and get them all wired in.

I've got cans that I sell in either aluminum or diamond plate for $150.00 a pair. I can have the aluminum cans powder coated at no additional cost in any color you wish. Here are a few pics.

ttuclint, I got em off of ebay, just search for Kicker K65's I got em from a seller "Judys Deals" or something and they were stupid. I wouldnt recomend them, it took 16 days for them to get to me, wich is pethetic beacause stuff ships from cali to oregon in a day or two, i guess they accidentaly ordered K60's instead of K65's. as far as Powdercoating, I have no clue what so ever, call around to get prices, i would guess maybe 50-70$ maybe more?

CM, shure bet, as soon as I pull her out of storage Mad

Thank you for the comments guys!

WOW... Sombody needs to hook him up with Raul! Could have at least ground down the weld lines.

That setup wouldn't really set my plate, but compared to some of the retail prices for speakes and cans (not Raul's), that's not to bad.

Thanks

We thought about grinding the welds down but decided to leave them, and buff them out.

The whole idea behind the look is to make it match with the tower. You dont' see tower company's grinding welds out, they polish them. A professional weld doesn't need to be ground out in my opinion. When the welds are polished out they have a tuff look that compliments the diamond plate real well. I've made cans with and without grinding the welds.

I've shown the cans to quite a few people at the lake in the last three weeks, and most agree the welds add a distinctive look that nobody else is using.

Compare

I understand the thinking behind polishing weld lines on things like tower legs, brackets and braces, but I can't recall anyone building speaker cans quite that way.

Although on my next run on making cans, I might try it.... Nonetheless here are two pics. One showing rough can w/ weld - the other with weld line out and polished.

If you compare apples to apples ie polished weld vs polished without I think the impression may be different.

sinkoumn - I believe that he got those clamps thru Raul also. That's who I got mine from, and they look exactly the same. Got mine for $16/each. Awsome price. That was about a month ago, so I don't know if he has raised the price or not.

Hey DIY Guy - Love the finish you got on that can - but how'd you do it? was it a specialist job or did you do it in house?

Brit Rider - Did it all myself. Lots of grinding, sanding then a cloth wheel on the grinder using jewlers hi-polish rouge. *bling* bling* Done!

Aluminum is fun to work with. It polishes out almost like chrome. The only drawback is it does scratch easy

I think that is the most accurate statement anyone could make about them without a down right insult.

IMO, they look more like some sort of a wheel one might expect to find on a Mars rover or some other outer planetary project of some sort.

To each his own, I suppose. I'm gonna try to find a tower made out of diamond plate.

DRAGON88, it's amazing how much you can save by doing it all yourself. or, how much they charge to put it together. there's also the satisfaction of putting together something yourself. nice work though, looks mad professional.

MWS,

For forty dollors you ripped yourself off. You'll be tighting those clamps down every hour, if they hold.

How much time did you put into that, five minutes?
