OK hears the deal. I know everyone for the most part says PP is worth every bit of money and I'm thinking it is but just wanted some input on my way of thinking about this. I have a 24' Cobalt I/O and it has a 496 in it which puts out 375HP, which isn't more then what most inboards put out but I would have to say it's geared much more for the hole shot and mid to top end more then anything. My problem is that even when I'm pulling people and I get up on plain about 20 MPH and try to keep it constant it just seems like it wants to be all or nothing. I mean you take it down the slightest bit and it drops 5 MPH or bump it up a bit and your up 10 MPH. I'm not saying it's a super fast boat but on an inboard you have far more weight most the time for ballest and it's geared lower so it seems easier to control and not as touchy. My question to you that have PP already is do you think that the PP computer is sensitive enough to control that or is there just too much power to be able to keep it accurate. I know a computer can do things better than a human but it just seems like no matter how little I move it it's too much. I don't have a problem spending the 1000 bones just wondering if this makes sense to anyone else and if you think it can control that problem of having too much mid to top end power. Any thoughts or ideas are appriecated. Oh yeah and thank God for spring , bout time it warms up here in Indiana. I was starting to wonder after having snow last week on the first day of spring. Thanks Chris _________________ Chris Wilds |

Colbalt offers the PP as an option on thier IO boats. It can be retrofited by any mechanically inclined person capable of following directions and identifying major engine components. _________________ Original Boarder from 1983

If you're intent on keeping the cobalt for a few years, go for it... I've seen lots of postings about people putting PP on I/O's and they haven't had any problems at all...
the one thing you may want to look into is calling PP and talking to them about anything special you may need... I think some I/O's require an extra spring or something to make the pp system work.

Put a 4 blade prop on the boat. I have an I/O and had a hard time keeping it on plane with the trim I want at 22 mph after the new prop it will stay on plane at 18 mph. It is a lot easier driving the boat and keeping the same speed now. _________________ There'll be two dates on your tombstone/ And all your friends will read 'em/ But all that's gonna matter is that little dash between 'em... |

theres no reason it shouldnt work, and if they're offering it as an option on their new boats, then thats all the more reason it should work. A shallower 4 or 5 blade prop would probably be beneficial too.
Hmm... a 24' cobalt with a 6.0L. Probably puts out a decent wake, being a boat of that size (and probably a V-hull). I'd be interested to see what the wake looks like. _________________ I eat Vegans. Medium-Rare.

Yes it does put out a very nice wake. I know some people have talked about how none of their pics. show the wake but I haven't been able to get some of my boat yet but I'll get some up in the next month as soon as she gets in the water. I also thought about the 4 blade prop but I have the volvo 8.1 in it and it's a bravo 3 so it's dual props. Quite a bit of money spent there to just throw a single four blade on there but we'll see how the PP does then if it doesn't fix it try something else. Thanks for all the insite guys. Happy boarding. _________________ Chris Wilds |

oh duh.. .my bad 496 comes out to 8.1. Damn, I'll bet that thing will MOVE! Kinda makes me wonder how steep the props are on there. Kinda strange that its a volvo converted vortech w/ a mercruiser outdrive. Are you sure its not a Merc 496 MAG MPI (or HO) Bravo 3? Also... just out of curiosity, is your boat a 240SD? that thing w/ an 8 liter starts at about 70k! _________________ I eat Vegans. Medium-Rare.

It's no problem it's not the SD I didn't like that one that much on the cobalt a big too big of boat to have that but looks sick for an X-star. Anyways yeah it's all volvo outdrive sorry about that I said Bravo 3 just cause more people have heard of that I'm sure but it's Volvo's duoprop outdrive. It does scoot pretty nicely I would have to say . It will run upper 50's and low to mid 60's with glass and light load. Pretty sweet ride all around though. I love it. Best of both worlds for me though take a bunch of friends out but board too. Not that you can't on an inboard but you know what I mean. I like to be able to get up and move when I want to too. The prop ratio is 1.78. Not sure what that pitch would be but I'll do some looking around and let you know. I tell you what if you've driven an I/O single prop and then dual prop you'll never go back it's so nice. Backs up as straight as it goes forward with no over correcting and nav. at slow speeds arounds other and stuff like that is amazing, I would suggest at least trying it if you ever get a chance. I got my boat as a demo but only with 2 hours on it. It was the owner that took it out with his wife one day and that was nice plus it came fully loaded that way. One of the perks of owner a dealership i suppose. Thanks _________________ Chris Wilds |

I have been working with the local Cobalt Dealer here to have Perfect Pass installed in my boat. So far they have been hesitant to install it and that makes me nervous.
Has anyone had any issues with intalling Perfect Pass on a tune port injected I/O? |

Hmm makes me wonder myself. I know they offer it from the factory but I mean who wouldn't offer an accessory to make money you know what I'm saying. Just might not work as well as what it should that's all I'm wondering about. I guess I'll be finding out or if you do let me know. Thanks _________________ Chris Wilds |

| I stopped by the Cobalt dealer today to see if they had made any progress on determining if Perfect Pass could be installed on a big block tune port injected motor. There is an issue with the location of the throttle on these engines and Perfect Pass is in the process of fabricating a bracket to make the system work. Other than this issue it appears the rest of the system should intall without any problem. |
