|
|
| I may be moving to So Cal in a few months and was curious how much wakeboarding goes on? Where do alot of people ride? What lakes? Is the riding year around or more seasonal? I know there are alot of really good, stylish riders in Cali, so where is all the riding taking place? I mean here in Orlando, there are rippers everywhere. Is there a city in Cali where there's a similar scene and is known for having alot of good riders? Thanks for any input. Peace. |

there arnt too many lakes in so cal there all in nor cal or arizona or nevada, but there are a few dwon here but get very corwded during summer times, and they arnt that big. Depending on where u want to move there are different lakes, if ur planning on moving too la area there are some arund there r in bakersfield i think.
If your moving more towards orange county there are few lakes.
Oh and about the riding scene there really isnt much of one, i suggest getting a surfboard. I did and it gives me something to do a lot of the time and there are a lot of guys that surf and its a lot of fun espescially if you go wih some friends. And the season si year around as long as you go out and buy a wet suit. _________________ www.victoryrecords.com

SoCal has great weather, most of the time but to get decent water in summer you have to wake up at the crack of dawn to ride and you're done by noon. IMO, Nor*cal has better riding spots _________________ This time, like all times, is a very good one if we but know what to do with it. - Ralph Waldo Emerson |

| I'm moving to go to school. Cali has some of the best business schools in the country so I'm going to move out, claim residency, and hopefully go to the U of Cali at ??? Perferably UCLA or UC Berkeley. |

| Like everyone else said there arn't too many lakes in Socal to pick from. However, there is a riding scene you just have to get hooked up with the right people. There are plenty of people that would be happy to give you a pull if you just ask. |

Both of those schools are good choices for Business. If you want great water year round (Delta) and a good school I would suggest UCB. The only drawback is that parking is a pain in the ass, I'm sure scotta can vouch for that and housing is expensive (in both areas). Good luck. _________________ This time, like all times, is a very good one if we but know what to do with it. - Ralph Waldo Emerson |

| Thanks for the help thus far everyone. I'm looking for an area to move to where, a) there is a wakeboarding near by, and b) the snowboarding isn't too far either (hopefully not more than a 2-3 hour drive). I would love to be able to go and surf somewhere kind of close too but that is the least of my worries and doesn't play much of a role in where I go. I really just want to still be able to wakeboard at least part of the year and snowboard some as well. I don't know if the best place to look is SoCal, NorCal or somewhere in between, you tell me. Any help I would love to hear. If you want you can email me at drudalton@hotmail.com. Thanks again. |

Sacramento.... CSU-Sacramento or UC Davis
1 Hour to Tahoe
15-30 Minutes to Folsom Lake
5-10 Minutes to Sacramento River
40 Minutes to the Delta
1 1/2 Hours to Lake Oroville
1 1/2 Hours to Lake Berryessa
2 1/2 Hours to Lake Shasta
2 1/2-3 Hours from Santa Cruz
Tons of other smaller lakes within an hour.
Central Cal is pretty far from any good snow so I'm not sure if that's worth looking at for you. However Cal Poly-SLO has 2 lakes within an hour and surfing within 30 minutes or so. UC Santa Barbara is right on the ocean but far from snow (3 hours) and the closest lakes are in So Cal which I'm not keen on. _________________ If I agreed with you we would both be wrong. |

jumalian, not on a friday after 1pm. It's backed up to Roseville every single friday year round. You can still make it to the resorts in about an hour 15 if you leave in the morning. _________________ If I agreed with you we would both be wrong. |

So, what you're saying is, in the real world, when not everyone can leave at the optimum time, it takes way longer than an hour...

you dont need to be a california resident to go to a UC...your tuition will be higher but you can still get in. uc berkeley does have one of the best business schools in the nation, so that means you better have a 4.0 or better gpa with lots of extracurriculars if you wanna get in.
the problem with berkeley is that parking is a pain. if you live in the dorms you wont have a car which makes transportation difficult. the delta is about an hour away but you need to know someone that will pick you up and take you there. add to that the fact that as a business student you will need to spend looooots of time studying to keep your gpa up to get into Haas, so if i were you just kiss off riding if you go to berkeley. _________________ www.TheLiquidPlayground.com

If you're white, you can get in to UCI (University of Chinese Immigrants) as a minority. _________________ my demo reel

I have an Asian friend who decided to go to UCI and before he left I was raving about all the asians and everyone looked at me like I was some sort of racist @$$hole. So he comes up to visit a month later and the first thing he says is "damn there are a lot of asians there".
Cal Poly SLO has one of the best business programs in the country definately tops in the CSU system, it's hard to get in and getting harder as budget cuts take effect. Surfing is 15 minutes away and depending on the swell usually breaking well because we have beaches facing different directions. Two lakes within an hour, one within twenty minutes. The snow is our greatest downfall, 3 hours at least and that's with the radar gun leading the way @ 90. San Luis Obispo is one of the most chill towns there is, a lot of folks from big cities aren't keen on the small town atmosphere. Check my link for our wakeboard club, damn drunks |

Dru,
I would look into UC Davis, I don't think Scott was exaggarating when he said you have to put a lot of time into UCB. I would go for Nor*Cal over SoCal because of the fact that you want to be able to wakeboard and snowboard and maybe surf and the people are nicer up there . Good luck on your decision, hope we were helpful in some way. _________________ This time, like all times, is a very good one if we but know what to do with it. - Ralph Waldo Emerson |
