(Since scotta enjoys hockey threads)
What do you guys think of the Leafs picking up Ron Francis, Calle Johansson and Chad Kilger - in addition to the recent addition of Brian Leetch?
Talk about adding some experience!
I think this should help the powerplay big-time, and Francis will be a great face-off guy along with Nieuwendyk. Johansson may be some good backup for the blueline as well through the playoffs and the best part about all these deals is the Leafs gave up hardly anything. I'm glad John Ferguson went out and made the team better while keeping all the prospects!

| Yeah, those guys are going to help a ton. I dont understand why they didnt shop for a goalie though. If Belfours' back doesnt hold up, they are toast. |

Damn, how old are leetch, francis, and belfour? Most of those guys can't be playing for to much longer, can they? _________________ My Gallery

gotta love those leafs!!!!
francis is great pickup - he will fit into a dressing room on any team,
francis is 41, leetch 39, belfour 37 (i think)
I think a lot of teams who made a lot of trades will have a tuff time meshing in time for the playoffs. _________________ www.highrollerwakeboarding.com |

Leafs will make it past the first round, but i dont see them going beyond that, its too hard to try to mesh that much talent together in such a short time.
I had picked the canucks to get to the finals before the bertuzzi incident, thats going to be a hard sell now without him.
I think its either going to be the lightning/devils vs the sharks/avalanche

Sorry guys, but I see an early round exit for the Sharks. They lost one their top scorers for the season, didn't they? I know Dallas manhandled them Sunday...
...of course, I'm from Dallas. If not for that let down last night the Stars would be in first place, they will overcome the Shark.. |

Did'nt Dallas lose to the Sharks the time before that though??
I'm not normally a Sharks fan, but they're looking really good this year. I'd say they're gonna make it pretty far into the playoffs. I see no early round exit?? |

Nope, not in my opinion. I find the players that Ottawa or Vancouver picked up for example a tougher fit into the lineup than the Toronto aquisitions. Johansson and Kilger are pretty much depth players, who knows how they'll even fit into things yet. As for Francis I think he's the perfect fit for this group of guys and will mix really well with the veteran players such as Roberts, Neiuwendyk, Nolan, Leetch and so on. I also think this will be a much better group in terms of a "team" than last year for sure.
As for San Jose, I don't get to see much of them unless they play Toronto or Vancouver. They have done well in the standings this year, but I still don't see them as a big playoff team. I'll be surprised if they make it past the second round. |

At this rate the Leafs are gonna have to ditch the dressing room and make it into an old folks home...
All these players are good - and it's evident that Fergy was just trying to boost the lineup for this year. We've been close to getting through to the finals a couple times - just needed an extra boost. Maybe these newly acquired old guys will push the Leafs over the top. Let's just hope they don't start to suffer from osteoperosis before the playoffs! I would have liked to see more action on the blue line - that's the Buds' weakest point IMO.
On the Bertuzzi incident, what are peoples reactions? I don't blame Todd for his actions. He's a BIG guy, and I don't think he realizes how much weight he has to throw around. I admit the punch from behind was stupid as hell, but I don't think he meant to do a lot of damage. As I see it, the punch knocked Moore out, and Bertuzzi's weight carried forward, pushing Moore's head into the ice. I don't think Todd fell on him on purpose - it was a big accident. I think it's getting blown out of proportion as well - yes, it's two broken vertebrae - but he WILL recover. It's not like he's gonna be stuck in a wheelchair for life with no movement in his legs. People hear BROKEN and NECK and they automatically assume PARAPALEGIC (sP?)... that's not the case... I'd like to hear what other people think about it though. |
