I once saw this show on the Discovery channel that said the movie that comes closest to "real" time travel is Bill and Teds Excellent Adventure!
They also said that you can't change history, only participate... then again, i'm with chales; you can't even participate |

well its been proven that it is possible to travel forward in time. I cant remeber the article but an astonaut was in orbit around the earth at a rate of like 14000 mph or something. I guess after like 2 month or so he was around a 1/1000 of a second ahead of us in the future. _________________ jt09 wrote:

i dont think you can go to the future either cuz if you go to future wont you know that your there like in back to the future part 2 i think... where shes hiding in the closet wouldnt she know shes there and then when they go back to the past/present and stop him getting fired in the future then she would have never known that he was gonna be fired so then she couldnt stop him so she would end up getting him fired and then your back at the begining _________________ Staff member of

I don't recall all the specifics, but this was discussed along with Einstein's theory of relativity in college.
I want to say that the premise is that whoever the 'time traveler' is goes somewhere (space travel) and returns at a rate approaching that of light speed. Everyone else would have aged by X amount, but that individual would not have. Or something like that. |

If you can go back in time, you then are able to this.
Go back in time and kill your grandmother before your mom was born. Then you were never born. Then you never went back in time to kill your grandmother, then you didnt kill her, then you were born, etc, etc, etc.
And this applies even to small atoms, or tachyons. they would cause a casualty loop. In fact, models suggest if time is reversable, then the universe would collapse in on itself! (Source: Elegant Universe, Superstring Theory) _________________

What is that, like a quadruple negative?
Rampage wake, those physicists think up some crazy sh_t, don't they? like the 11 dimensions of string theory, multiple parallel universes, etc. I just bought Brian Greene's new book at Costco, can't wait to read it. |

There was a young lady of Wight
Who traveled much faster than light.
She departed one day,
In a relative way,
And arrived on the previous night |

Lindsay,
That sounds like a good read. I read Stephen Hawkings "The Universe in a Nutshell" a couple of years ago, and it was fascinating. They do come up with some interesting stuff... _________________

God Dpierce - I crack up everytime i see that damn kid... TAKE IT DOWN! I don't have enough energy to laugh at it this much...
And Chales, I tore apart your mom last night although really I did it two weeks in the future which would mean it didn't happen last night
BTW - did you happen to watch Smallville and get this idea? (Yes that's right, I watch Smallville - if you don't you best watch out, or you'll get a swift kick to the nuts in the present from me in the future when I read you making fun of me)

But wait, if my actions were two weeks in the future, wouldn't it be Jello John's mom? Or would Chales still be Chales |

to control the movement through time is imposible. but stop time for a moment is posible.
what you need to do is go above the earths atmosphere travel the oposite way the earth is traveling at twice the speed. so thats like 1000mph or something. do this for as long as you want and then go back to earth and granted you havent realy traveld through time but everyone on earth has seemed to age however long you were doing it(actualy they havent aged, its just that time was normal to them) and to you how ever long you were up in space seemed like half the time. it will work trust me |

As the gravitational force increases, time slows down. Isn't that the idea? In high school physics we got into it a little. Mostly regarding Einstein's theory of relativity. I guess the idea is that at the center of a black hole time stands still because of the massive gravitational pull.
All that time travel stuff is theoretical anyways. We don't currently have the means to prove any of it. I guess there are theories in physics which at best claim that under the right circumstances it is a theoretical possibility. I think wormholes have something to do with it, and I'm not really all that clear on what a wormhole is. _________________ How do you apologize to a friend for something like that? Maestro, hahahaha...no I watch that show...or at least I used to. Now it's soooooofar fetched and cheasy and the poor acting can no longer be covered up by Kristen Kreuk's good looks. Do you watch One tree Hill too? I love that show. Sophia Bush is amazing. _________________
