| I herd this morning that he want to put a charge on e-mails now. He says to help stop junk mail. There are options on your mail service to send junk mail right into your delete box. What's the need for a charge but to put money into his pocket. |

| I dont see that happening, thats crazy to hear though if he is supporting that. Technology will always be one step ahead of pay-per services, even legal regulations cant control it- too many dedicated ubers finding loopholes. |

Shouldn't he be able to charge whatever he wants for whatever he can get away with, regardless of the impace on society? That's capitalism, right?

Urban Myth.
There was another "chain-mail" warning everyone that the USPS was going to start charging .01 or so for each email.... I have heard people who have put forth this theory, to charge .001 for each email and only people who send millions of emails would be affected (spammers), but I do not think big Bill supports that. I think his new Longhorn system includes an authentication method so when you attempt to send an email to someone, their mail account responds with an image of letters and numbers that you must enter correctly, send back, and this creates a "trust" relationship so emails can go through. If a mass mail program attempts to send the mail, the program cannot read the picture of numbers and letters and the recipiant's account nixes the mail. Some techies on here probably know more about the direction spam filtering is going better than me.... _________________

No, but really, seriously. I mean, this is a hoax, but shouldn't he be allowed to charge whatever he wants? _________________ I walk 47 miles of barb wire, I got a cobra snake for a necktie, a brand new house up on the road side, and it's made out of rattlesnake hide |

Well how about that, it is real..........
Gates does a lot for charity, as well.
He could buy a new Malibu VLX for every run for 80 years. _________________ I walk 47 miles of barb wire, I got a cobra snake for a necktie, a brand new house up on the road side, and it's made out of rattlesnake hide |

cameraboy, | Quote: | | Gates does a lot for charity, as well. | i would think he would have to, imagine how much your taxes would be. granted i still think he probably pays more in taxes than some people make in 10 or 20 years, but i would think giving to charity's would cut down on his taxes a bit. I for one would rather give away huge sums of money to worth while charity's then to ol' G Dubya. _________________ Religion. cameraboy, of course he has the right to make as much money as he can/wants. But he's already the wealthiest man in the world. What more can he gain except numbers. Money has got to be a very arbitrary thing for that man. Like Kleanex's. He doesn't care how many he uses when he goes shopping for his kids or whatever. His business, though, is different.
This kinda parallels the whole monopoly thing with the software. What if he wanted to charge $1000 for MS?
That would fit in to the "he has a right to make as much money as he wants" idea. But would that be fair to the average american/user with a home pc that gets used once a day or less? _________________

Where does it say that you pay Microsoft? The idea is that you pay your ISP, or if you read the article, "pay" by computing a math problem for 10 seconds. Other anti-spam proposals are already in the works including authentication of the sender thru various means. Most spammers forge the email return address, so by validating the address you would eliminate most spam. And now that viruses are being sent using forged return addresses to appear as if they are from a friend, authentication would also help prevent virus outbreaks like we've seen the last few months.
Somethat has to be done, there's no question about that. Now it's just a matter of how and when. |

An example of what I was talking about is here:
http://www.networksolutions.com/en_US/whois/entry.jhtml;jsessionid=HPIGFXRKLLDGICWLEAKSFEQ?_requestid=768110
these pictures are not read by computers, therefore it makes it impractical for a spammer to read and type in each code everytime he wanted to send an email. This might be along the lines of how Bill suggests we "pay". _________________

i thought that was called business ethics.
a marketing term (i can't remember what)for a graph that represents sales if it were priced at the minimum it it could be sold for and the maximum and how many would be purchased at each price set. Then you set your price at the crosspoint on the graph and start selling.
But when computers are desinged with MS to be run, what other chice do ou have? Apple?<---that's not really a choice.
Granted apple still makes a quality computer, PC's prety much have the market cornered. _________________

Equilibrium is that point on the graph, if you're talking about about supply and demand. Although Equilibirum is an economists term.

Porterwake, thank you. Well it may be an economics term as well, but marketing uses it to set a price.
drifter36, what would be the point?
