Posted: Mar 02, 2004 1:22 pm Post subject: HELP! Stupid Ebay! Stupid Paypal! |
|
|
So I have my Pay-pal account all set up and verified. I also have the primary address on my Ebay account set to the EXACT SAME address that is verified with my checking account on Paypal.
I bought an item on ebay, and the person selling it requires a verified address, which I guess means that they will ONLY ship to the same address that the checking account is registered to. This shouldn't be a problem because I have them listed exactly the same, but when I try to pay by going through the Ebay page, it says that my address is not verified with Paypal. When I click to verify it, and put in all the info for my debit card (same checking account) it says that the card is already registered. What the heck is going on? I'm just a newbie with the whole ebay and pay-pal thing. I need to pay this guy before he gets mad! I dont want negative feedback my first time haha.
Thanks in advance. _________________ Get Frugally Green!

Did you try to pay through ebay, through paypal, from your "Items I have won" page? If so that's a big pain in the ass. I just go back to the auction page and click on the paypal symbol. It's usually pretty easy from there.
If you're having these problems from the actual auction page I cant help you. You might try to cantact the seller and tell him why it's taking so long. I'm sure they will understand. |

| Paypal drives me up the wall sometimes too! It sounds like your address/account is verified through one email, but you are using a second email for your Ebay transaction?? Your Paypal account can be tied to multiple emails, but for some reason it only allows you to tie one email address to your actual bank account used for routing of funds. Do you have multiple email addresses tied to the account? |

wes reeves, thanks, I haven't tried that yet.
Jim M, I have the same "email address" set for both Ebay and Pay-pal. What I am talking about is an actual physical address. I have my home address, and my address at school. I have both of these addresses set to both Ebay and Pay-pal, however, my home address is the address that my checking account is tied to. Thats where my statements go. This address is set as my primary address for both Ebay and Pay-pal. I don't know if it makes any difference, but I suppose I could just completely by pass Ebay and send the money directly from pay pal to the seller by manually entering entering the total amount. Do you know if that process is any different and would cause any problems? _________________ Get Frugally Green!

That's the way I always do it. Paypal will send a reciept to your e-mail so you have some proof of the transaction. If the seller's feedbacl is good I wouldn't worry about getting screwed. |

| Yeah I agree with Wes, if you can log into PayPal then you should be able to send funds and tie it to your 'verified' address. Just select 'Send Money' and fill it out, it will send a payment notification to the sender. |

thanks guys. However...now I'm a little worried. Stupid Newbie! *slaps face*
I took a look at this company, or whatever it is, that Im buying from, and although their feedback rating is like 7000 and 98.1 percent or something, they have had a lot of negative and neutral feedback recently. Also, when I look at their account info, it says that they are not a registered user and that their account is "currently suspended."
Im so confused, they still hold auctions and I have emailed them, and even spoken with them on the phone. They wanted me to pay over the phone, but I was reluctant to do so. They readily publish their email and phone number...seem like nice enough guys. Stupid Newbie!
PS: their seller ID is consumerxpress _________________ Get Frugally Green!

| Thats a tough one-- if its an item you feel you can find again, I would cancel the transaction, just tell them their account history is too shady and you want to cancel. They cant hold you to it if they arent even registered with ebay anymore! Paypal is just an intermediary so they wont matter at all. You would hate to get hosed, or even to deal with hassles like shipping or anything else listed in their negative feedback. I would def. recommend steering clear just to be on the safe side. |

| Tyler T - Camera gear huh? I bought from them in the spring. I had no problems. Although, in your case, I'd say forget about it and find the item somewhere else. Be very careful of camera shops originating in NY - a lot of them are no good. |

Maestro, did you do business with consumerXpress or consumerEXpress? apparently there are 2. However, the EXrpess one says it has been around for almost a year but there has no feedback. _________________ Get Frugally Green!

I've learned that if you're going to buy serious items on Ebay ( ie...electronic stuff). You're better off buying from someone who has their store listed as well.
I've actually spoken to my sellers and have done the transactions over the phone. |

Tyler - it was consumerXpress.
Camera shops in NY - a lot of them sell stripped down cameras for "cheap prices" (you only get the body, no cables, instructions, etc). You order the camera, then get an email telling you to phone in and confirm your order. When you call in, they pressure you like hell to buy the accessories that should be standard with the camera at outrageous prices. If you try to argue, they become VERY rude and essentially b*tch at you or even lie.
I've heard of cases where a person would order a camera, then call in and would decline the additional accessories, and would then be quoted something like $60 for shipping. The person lived close to the shop, so they offered to pick it up, and the response was something like "We don't have any of the cameras in stock. Even if I had one left and no one else would buy it, I wouldn't sell to you! *click*"
For some reason all these shops seem to be operating out of NY, and people have become quite warry of any shop in NY, unless they have a proven track record. |

well, in this auction, the shipping price was already listed, $25, (still outrageous as far as real shipping prices go) and it specifically listed the things that came with it. I phoned them to confirm the order and they didn't pressure me at all. I think I'm gonna bite the bullet and send them my money. BTW, looking around on Ebay, it seems like A LOT of the camera shops selling on there are from New York.
Thanks for all the help, that was pretty quicklike! _________________ Get Frugally Green!

That's where my camera came from. Can't remember who the seller was though. |

NEVERMIND! I just sat down and thought about it for 5 min, and realized that sending them my money would be really stupid. The stuff I bought is a dime a dozen on Ebay, so Im sure I can find the same deal again. After looking at all their feedback and what not, I'm betting that Ebay banned their account because they had too much negative feedback. They had like 37 in the last month. I don't think I even have to call to explain that I'm not sending them anything, because they can't post negative feedback if they don't even have an account. Right? _________________ Get Frugally Green!

If your conscience tells you not to tou probably shouldn't. I wouldnt think they could leave feedback if their account was banned. |

It is a scam, I recieved something similar on Earthlink. It came through my Spam folder.... that was the clue
From my understanding, you are never ask you to "re-submit" your information from an email.
Just send Ebay the link and have them respond back to you. |

Tyler T, from service@paypal.com (can't view all the header info though because it's in hotmail)
Dragonlady8, yeah I just read some stuff about these emails, but the strange thing is, it doesn't ask you to open anything and the link in the email is apparentely the actual paypal login page. |

| Nevermind. I had just gone to the actual paypal site directly and then I changed my password to some absurd thing that I can't even remember. I checked the link in the email and if you click on that one, it tries to route it through some other domain, so if you login through that it collects your login information I would assume. In any event, the domain/link used in this email has been shutdown already. |
