OK I got a couple questioins.
1. Where do you hook up a ground wire for an Amp in a boat? I'm going to install it in the ski locker under the passenger seat.
2. It's a fosgate punch 301x 4 channel amp. I'm going to run the RCA cable from the back of the deck where there is only two RCA outputs and then Y one side to the front channel of the amp and the other to the rear. Is it ok to go from 1 RCA to 2 on each channel and will this work right?
3. I'm going to run 2 6.5" kickers off the two front channel's (high pass) and bridge the two rear channels (low pass) to 1 12" fosgate sub. Does this sound like a good plan? _________________ ......and one time at wakeboard camp. Come on people say something original. |

1. Negative terminal of the battery or the engine block.
2. Yep, will work like a champ.
3. Should be fine. Might need more juice for the sub, depends on the enclosure and how much bass you are looking for.
You are headed in the right direction, might need more power for the sub, but your ears and rear end will tell you when you've got it right. _________________ More good times... |

I was just looking at the wiring diagram it states that if I hook it up 2 channel via the y connectors that I need to set front and rear gain the same and also both crossovers the same. My intention is to set the front 6.5" to high pass and the rear sub to low pass. I don't see why it would be set up like that, if it is would I have to set front and rear to all pass and cap both sets of speakers? _________________ ......and one time at wakeboard camp. | I would strongly suggest a sub amp. Due to heat and power. You should be able to find a reasonably priced one. I am not so sure your amp will achieve what you are attempting. What size and type enclosure is your sub? |

Wakedad -
I am currently running a Phoenix Gold 600.4 amp with the exact configuration that you are running. My rear component outputs are split with a Y connector to the front and rear inputs of the amp. Front channels are powering my tower speakers (Infinity Kappa's 6.5") and the rear channels are bridged and powering two Phoenix Gold 10" (wired parallel) subs in a sealed enclosure.
Not sure about the Fosgate amp, but if you don't get too crazy with the bass adjustments (Bass EQ) on the amp, it should run fine. Adjusting the Bass EQ on my PG amp draws double the power for every 3db of bass boost, so be judicious with this setting, and you should not have any overheating problems.
I have pounded this system all winter, and have had no problems at all, other than draining my battery!
I don't understand the logic of having to set your gain and crossover setting the same, kinda defeats the purpose of having the multi channel amp! Maybe it has something to do with stereo vs mono sound?
Not sure, but either way it won't make a big difference on a boat. Running at 30 MPH with a motor 3 feet from your ears, stereo vs mono is not that noticeable to me. _________________ More good times... |

Eric,
I'm gonna try it with one amp if I run into any overheating issues I will take your advice for sure. It's just one 12" the box is going to be 14"x14"x14" air tight no ports. I'm not trying to boom the fishermen off thier boats I just want some clean sound 80' behind the boat. Thanks for all the advice everyone. _________________ ......and one time at wakeboard camp. It's all hooked up and it actually sounds better than a I thought it would. I pissed off most of my nieghbors when i was adjusting everything, so I guess it's loud enough. If I keep fixn' up my boat pretty soon people might start thinkn' I'm cool _________________ ......and one time at wakeboard camp. Come on people say something original. |
