Both sides of the skate are good (it's not like a surfstyle wakeboard) and most likely, beginners won't even notice the difference. Also, asymmetrical shapes have proven themselves in many industries. For example, if you ride a skateboard, you're riding an asymmetrical deck--and it is asymmetrical for a reason (or many, I should say). Headlesschicken, I'd suggest you research the different decks before you call it a gimmic. _________________ J.L.A. Is Snowboarding

skate decks are assymetrical? Really? i have to check that one it looks pretty symetrical to me.
If one end of the skate isnt better then the other than whats the point of having it be assymetrical. i dont like the idea cuz my lake is so dirty i cant see my feet and wouldnt now which end is wider. |

Headless, yup, skateboards are asymmetrical. The noses are longer, wider and steeper for various reasons that I and others have mentioned on the other message board (I don't really feel like going into it anymore). Both ends of the deck are good and rideable, it just depends on what tricks you want to do--you know, nose/tail slide, ride switch, etc. _________________ J.L.A. Is Snowboarding

Actually, shouldn't you know it in order to be an informed dealer? I'm just wondering...you know, my friend owns a shop and he (along with his higher workers) know about all of their lines so they can size up the buyer appropriately. Plus they can explain why each board is special, why it works the way it does, etc. _________________ J.L.A. Is Snowboarding

I was just joking with Russian....but to tell you the truth, I have'nt seen any of my 04' Cassette order come in yet, so I am not as informed as I should be on the product. Our rep in this area has'nt come in to tech me and my employees on the gear yet either, so it would be quite hard for me to explain why each board is special or works the way it does....All I know of Cassette is the 03' and older lines at this point.... |

Same, havent got my Cassette order yet, and i placed in december, i guess their not shipping yet or something, and Electric, its hard to sell a product *correctly* when you dont have data or the product in hand.
A *informed* dealer is not a dealer that quotes from the catalog, its the dealer that rides and uses the products first hand that knows that the hell he's talking about. |

Syth, I totally agree. This past december my hill had a demo day with about ten different snowboard companies and my friend made it a point to get his shop workers out on the hill for a half a day so they could test out as many boards as they could so they could effectively explain how each board rides. That was one thing I learned from working in the option tent--I could only talk about the board so much and if there were more technical aspects that needed to be discussed, with a huge example being flex, he had to step in because he rode them before, I hadn't. So definitely, AN informed dealer will ride most, if not all of their product...
As for the wakeskates, I didn't quote anything from the catalog, it's just common sense. But I can attempt to explain why they used the technology they did, namely the asymmetrical design. The catalog doesn't really explain why they chose asymmetrical decks or why they're superior. They basically discussed a few new features that are supposed to be found on the decks. And I agree, if you don't have the product, how are you going to sell it? But I did bring it up because it didn't seem as though the dealers were being open minded, so I was just curious as to what was going on with that. And I can understand having biases because there are going to be products that out perform others, but I would think that you should at least be able to explain why it's good or bad, rather than just writing them off because "you don't care" or what have you. But k-dub cleared that up in a fine manner.
As for your mouth joke k-dub, I'll be perfectly honest, it was way beyond me....it was probably privy to insiders...
freerider, you're right about last year's 4-trac. _________________ J.L.A. Is Snowboarding

electricsnow, no worries....I call Russian "mouth" because he likes to use his a bit too much. A friend of ours started it, and I continued to use it...
In all honesty though, I do care about Cassette, just as much as Mutiny/Integrity. We're all in the same boat in that aspect....Erich, and Thomas have been friends for a long time, and share the same views on this wonderful sport. In no way was I trying to be negative about Cassette.
-just thought I had to clear that up- |

Yeah, I picked that up once you explained that before. But at first I was curious, and I know you are very into erich and all of his projects (I have my bias' too....they're quite obvious, I'm sure), so I can understand them (bias') but you know....I was curious. DId I say that enough? _________________ J.L.A. Is Snowboarding

K-dub, you are in the minority of "Informed Dealers". Most of the ones I have met just regurgitate info given to them by the MFG. _________________

the point of an a-syemmaterical deck is so that when these guys get used to riding a board wiht a wide nose and tail, when the go a-syemmaterical they make the tail narrower so when the push the board down with the same force the board displaces less water and goes further down, and as it's reaction the water pushes up higher to get it on a plane, so they ollie higher.
and when they do nose slides and such, they have "more" (they eventully get used to it when they have a foot on tail) grip to place their foot.
this is just my annalysis, i'm probably not right but it makes sense |
