I've posted on a Newsgroup about Centurions before. I had a 2001 Elite V-Drive, Air Warrior. Worst boat I've ever owned. I blame myslef for not shopping around and looking at other lines of boats. The qaulity put into the is shi$$y. Stiching comes undone in the firs season. Ballast pumps blew first season out. Bilge pumps broke. Hinges for comparments broke in first three months...all hinges. I'd find random bolts laying in the egnine compartment transom (scary). Tower problems with the Tower I was promised by the dealer. (I'm assuming this was pre-Pro-Flight. I ended up gettigna Pro-Flight installed after threatening a law suit. The old tower came apart...no joke...at the welds and almost fell into the passenger compartment. Service center at dealer was horrible as well....When I tried to contact Centurion directly, I was informed that I had to got hrough my dealer....
I now own a 2003 Mastercraft X-30 - it's leaps and bounds over the centurion line (of course I'm paying for it as well) and would suggest you buya used CC, Malibu or MC before a new Centurion anyday.
PS. Dealer who was horrible = Cope and Mcpheters - San Jose.

Did anyone say anything about the 2001 line of boats? You think because you had a unique and crappy experience with your boat makes all their boats crap? For every one of you, there's about a thousand satisfied Centurion owners. You paid 65K for an X30. I paid 36K for a Hurricane. Any moron can figure theres going to be some quality or foo foo sacrificed. You annoy me with your generalized opinion.

Not to get in a flame thingy... but...I'm just offering my opinion. What else do I have to go by....?? The poster wanted comments about Centurion, and I gave my personal experience, nothing else. He never asked for a year (in response to your "Did anyone say anything about the 2001 line of boats"). He just asked for comments on the centurion line. Best thing to do is express your opinion, openly and honestly. If you have a Centurion and are happy with it...say so. No need to bag other people for just expressing their opinions/experiences. Just wanted to share my experience....

Now, now boys. I agreegently27, that's your opinion-- state it. I have an OLD centurion (89) and love it. Yeah, it's not a new MC. But it is just as good as any MC of the same year. I wish I had the built in ballasts and all the bells but I'm a teacher and I don't have the coin for that.

He obviously didn't buy another Centurion did he? Also, a tower, stitching, and compartment hinges aren't "foo foo" to anybody. I'm sure you know the saying, YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR.
gently27, that was a straigh forward honest opinion of Centurion, thank you. Sorry about your experience, but glad to see you own a quality water craft now.

| Completely agree Hollywood. You get what you pay for....just sharing my experience with Centurion. The tower (which I udnerstand at the time was not Centurion - but SHOULD have been) situation was probably the worst. IT was lethal. It seriously could have collapsed in on someone riding in the boat....inexcusable for any price boat. But I will give this up for them. Nice wake and very sturdy V-Drive tranny....

Hollywood,
You get what you pay for is exactly what I meant in my quality comment. But you're right, he gave his opinion and I'm all for people stating their opinions. I guess I'm just getting annoyed easier by the posts that re-surface about the few people that have had issues in the past on boats that were made during a transistion time for Centurion (no excuse for it I know) In reference to post that started this thread the "these days" statement I assume was inferring todays line of boats. (Hence the 2004 Av pictured) Sorry for coming off so strong guys.... I'm just tired of hearing the 6-7 people (out of the thousands of probably pretty satisfied customers) that have had bad experience with Centurion ..or ANY other boat line for that matter, give the entire line the bad name. It is so easy to do nowadays with these boards that reach millions and next thing you know your boat is as good as a johnboat even when it performs just like you wanted it to for the money. As far as opinions go, mine is that Centurion is a decent boat for an excellent price. Your experience, I admit, sucks, but it doesn't mean that all the boats have the same issues. I know a guys who's had the same type of crap happen to him on his MC (ballasts, heater, seat hinge, electrical issues, etc.). That definitely doesn't make all MC's crap. Again. Sorry for coming off like a prick.

Ohsensurfer I feel where you are coming from. I get bitter easy as well when the bashing starts. I cannot comment on previous years for Centurion but my currently experience has just been great. I have got to deal with alot people at Centurion with the issue I had with a dealer and I have to say Centurion's personel is just awesome to work with. This company could have easily told me to take a hike but they didn't they stuck by their product and their dealer. I'm a happy customer

My buddy has an older centurion that we use to barefoot from. I like it and think it is a great boat. I'd like to see him put a tower on it and throw some weight in there. I think it would make a great wakeboard boat..................But, his dad is a prick and would never let that happen. The poor kid doesn't want to come home this summer b/c his dad is such an ass.
I agree with gently27. He had a shitty boat and has the right to bitch about it and claim that Centurion made a crappy product. If that gives Centurion a bad name, then that's what they earned. It is one thing that one or a few things may go wrong, but he had an extensive list including the tower issue.
Mastercraft has built themselves a quality reputation. So when you hear a story like oshensurfers friend, you pass that off as a fluke. There just isn't enough PR about the Centurions so when you hear about them, you base your opinion on what you've heard unless you have experience that you can better base your opinion.
You can't discount a boat that is on the less expensive range of wakeboard boats as "cheap" b/c they aren't overpriced like the new X-stars and SAN. People don't consider the Mobius LSV a "cheap" boat, just a less expensive one.

I don't know what a new centurion goes for but, when you spend at the minimum of $30,000 on a new boat, I don't think you deserve getting a boat that falls apart and has problems.
Lastly, it is very bad business when Centurion says "talk to your dealer." Well, manufacturers decide who they let deal their boats, cars, etc. If the dealer sucks and you go over their head directly to the manufacturer, then that is the fault of the manufacturer as well as the dealer. And when the manufacturer won't take responsibility, then you really have problems.

Cool and no kidding on getting back on the water. Spring? Hell, I'm hitting the water this weekend. The weather has been incredible. Also, I just want to add that I am not trying to put up a front that they haven't ever had issues or even that I haven't had ANY problems with my boat. I've had a few, but they've all been taken care of at no cost to me other than the time in the shop. Also, EVERY dealing or conversation that I have had with the factory has been an absolute pleasure. EVERY single one. They've helped me out in ways that I define as "going the extra mile".
have a good one.
