| I'm happy with my sony's, but then again I'm not an audiophile so all I need is for them to be comfortable and durable. I've had the original behind-the-neck ones for a year and a half and they still work great. I'm wearing them now, lets see... apparently the model number is MDR-G52. |

BoardC3 i have two questions for you...
why shouldnt people buy sony? you're a self proclaimed audiophile so this shouldnt be difficult for you to answer.
and why did you spend $700 on a pair of headphones?
i own a pair of sony headphones and i love them. super comfortable and they sound great. i would get something that is comfortable for you to wear and also has good sound. i would go and try them on at stores and see what you like. _________________ www.TheLiquidPlayground.com

I have these Rca , behind the neck ones that cost me 14 bucks cdn, they are the best pair ive ever had. Loudest, and when i have my bass up all the way i can set them on a table and they will rattle around on it. By far the best ive ever had and the cheapest. _________________ Ontario Rider

sony - harsh treble often painful, thin mids, bloated muddy bass (for the most part)
they always sound very fake. i personally dont find most sonys comfortable. But the main reason paying more for audio is to make it more beleivable, you want something that will trick your mind into thinking the persons in front of you. With a pair of cheap sonys not only will it not be even close to that but you can actually miss parts of the song. They dont have the definition to bring out most details. and by the way i got an insane deal on the $700 ones and traded them later for some kickass speakers. for cheap phones buy the Koss KSC-50 they are about $15-20 and sound just incredible for the money (ive had about 10 friends buy them after hearing mine) and my nice set of cans are Grado SR-80's which are $100 and just incredible. heres a link to a review of the KSC-50 http://gear.ign.com/objects/383/383607.html and a link to the Grados i have http://gear.ign.com/objects/375/375545.html . and also if youre pleased with something cheap DO NOT LISTEN TO HIGH END STUFF. that was the most expensive mistake i have ever made. Once i heard the Grados i was floored and most everything else sounded like trash. If youre pleased with your $14 RCA's and dont want anything more i envy you, because i could have saved so much money on headphone and stereo equipment if i were you. Alright enough with the lecture

I'd widen the ban to all SONY proaducts. I've never owned a sony product that didn't break. I am less than impressed with their quality and durability.
2 camcorders
vcr
car sterio cd
one of them was a warrantee issue. Their service was so terrible I was without the product for 3 months.
i will never make a SONY mistake again. |

I agree with C3 that Koss makes some great headphones! I've been using Koss' pair called "the plug". They only cost $15 at Best Buy and the frequency responce is by far the best of any portable. The only mod that I did to the headphones was instead of using the foam plugs they supplied, I used industrial ear plugs for hearing protecting and used a leather punch to put the hole through the middle of the plugs. If you don't like the feel of wearing ear plugs for hearing protection, you probably won't like these headphones, but if it doesn't bother you at all, these are definately the set to get!!!!! I use them all the time for snowboarding and theres no worries of the falling off. Once those ear plugs "grow" in your ear after you put them in your ear, all the sound is put in your ear and ambient noise around you isn't even a factor! Funny though when someone wants to talk to you and you can't hear a damn word they're saying. |

| ya the plugs are surprisingly nice headphones, the KSC-50s are a little better. And i would say ALL sonys because even the DJ700 (the silver ones all the DJ's wear) are insanely over priced. |

I have a pair of Sennheiser HD200. They're pretty sweet. I'm no audiophile, but they work well for monitoring my sound with the camcorder and the bass is pretty clear when I listen to my MiniDisc. They are good because they block out the background noise well. (good for monitoring)
Any thoughts on the Sennheiser name from you audio guys? I know they make some of the best versitile mic's around for my camera, and I've heard their headphones are generally regarded as pretty good. _________________ Download In-Transit today for only $5 - Winner of Transworld Video Part of the Year, Riders Choice Awards Video of the Year |
