|
|
I resently sent my resume and a letter to straight line asking about how does straight line hand out there sposorships. I wasn't asking for a sporship but they wrote a really sweet reply:
Evan,
I'm very impressed with the progressive thinking and dedication that you seem to
show towards the sports of wakeboarding and wakeskating. It is great to know
that you along with so many others are so stoked on these sports, people like
you will help legitimize our sports even more to the world.
Here is a rough idea of how we organize our sponsorships:
We keep our national team fairly small and typically the riders will be well
known or what we consider soon-to-be well knowns of the sport. We rely on our
reps and sometimes dealers to sponsor athletes at a more regional level as they
typically are better in tune of their areas and who is truly representing and
pushing the sports around them.
From reading your resume, it sounds like you are headed down the right track as
far as representing your sponsors in your area, so keep up the good work and
maybe we'll cross paths at a tournament down the road.
Thanks for the support!

Doesn't shane bonifay ride for LF and Jet pilot? You might just need a little bit more experience--sponsors aren't everything and you don't want to be the kid that's known for chasing them around. Just like eddie wall, I'd rather have them come to me, instead of bothering them and maybe developing a bad rapport.

electricsnow, & Maestro, im going through a dealer in canda which is also a compeatater to LF which i didn't know at the time.tribal, ya i know. but the whole point of this topic is showing that companys are not looking for a good rider there looking for a good representitive of the company and sport. JD, were on a online forum let it go. this is why I left before for so long becuase of people who critizice me on my grammer on the internet

either way you're 14, and if i was you i would be working on creating a relationship between you and company reps rather than asking for sponsorships. remember that you are still quite young, so if you create a good relationship with reps you are more likely to get hooked up later on down the line instead of being known as the kid that wanted to be sponsored at 14.
if we are on an online forum, it is even more important that you have good grammar and spelling so that people can read what you say. if we were all talking in person grammar/spelling would be much less important, but because of the fact that we are communicating through words, i think its pretty important that you be able to spell correctly and put together a half decent sentence.

| Ocean Rider, so, basically being on the "B-team" means that you get a pro-form? That's what it sounds like to me...

A Pro-Form is basically a discout that you recieve from a rep, or straight from the factory that is usually 10-20 percent below wholesale on a blem board or any other kind of second quality product that a company has to offer. They usually give them out to shop employees or bro-deal type people. Our shop riders get pro-form deals straight from the reps. Our Pro team is the only group that actually gets free product. Even the outlaw riders don't get freebies....
I hope that made sense, I'm a bit hung over this morning.
